'Neath open eyes
deep darkness lies,
and chills my depths of soul.
Entrenched within,
heartache held in -
shall faith my heart console?
Completely lost,
will broken, tossed -
my heart begins to pray.
Arms raised up high,
asked questions why -
concede, and beg your stay.
Deep darkness shattered,
dread shadows tattered -
black fading, shades to grey.
Grief-soothing peace,
forlornness cease -
clouds waning on this day.
Revealing love
from up above,
true love that holds me tight.
Now rides with me
when I can't see
my way through darkest night.

Tercet! I combed my wits trying to shake out that word yesterday. I recall doing a villanelle for the potlatch club long ago...memory says this looks right(but then tercet got away) and your repeating lines don't come across awkward...excellent post.

This piece is a Villanelle. I find it sooo suited for love poetry..partially because of the repitition.

I'll begin by sharing how much I love the color and font selections, and that picture is absolute perfection in setting the mood, as is the whole of this amazingly heart-dancing piece ... I've never read a more enthralling Villanelle.

One of my favorite forms the villanelle, and you have written this beautifully. I loved every line, and your use of words such as...'pon, hosanna'...they give this a Victorian flavor. Quite profound.
