This has a fun surprise ending. Many of us think we have other muses, such as my spidies, peering down at me from my ceiling. You have woven personification throughout this poem, another draw for the reader. Well done.

Hi Alie. This is an older post but somehow I missed it. I guess because it was a contest entry? The artwork is wonderful combined with your poem. Yes, our muse is always with us because it IS us. I find I'm best in the morning. Sometimes my muse wakes me up raring to go. Marilyn

Love your poem! First of all, being an animal lover, you got my attention with the darling picture... and your intro, of being 70% Native American and Wiccan... my wife is 50% Hopi and is also a Wiccan... I believe in the power and practice of both.. I have an eclectic form of religious/spiritual beliefs, not just limited to a particular belief system..
your words/poem is healing, inspirational and informative... my favorite lines are:
"...It is the creative part of my mind.
The part that absolutely knows,
The words that would be kind
And what must truly go..." powerful, moving and profound! :)

Nice sentiment in this free style poem. Straightforward writing style. I thought by the pic that your animals were your muse lol. Good luck in the contest and thank you for promoting your entry.

Ah, now there's a neat trick. A poet who is also his or her own muse.
I wish I could claim the same. When my muse takes hold of me I haven't the slightest idea from one day to the next where he's going to take me.
He is a demanding slave driver--waking me up out of a deep, restful sleep at all hours of the early morning and night (always before sunrise) demanding that I write.

But not you.
You are in complete control and that's a good thing.
Speaking of "good things", good luck to you in the contest.

Thank you Dean for reading, reviewing and your kind comments, oh and the good luck wishes are much appreciated. LOL for the longest time muse did control me, until one day I had a long, long talk with myself- no I did not answer back- but I decided I had to be in control.

A very well-written poem about the Muse within us that helps us to create and write what is on our minds. Everyone sees his/her Muse differently, as long as we know where to find him/her when we need some assistance.

Excellent job on this poem. The rhyming was great and it flowed nicely. I liked the colors but didn't understand the photo with the animals. It didn't matter too much, I liked the poem very much. Well done!

Thank you Kelly for reading, reviewing and your kind comments, I choice the picture because even though it was of animals it was titled 'best friends' and that's what my muse is to me. (smile)

Well there you go... I've been looking for my muse in all the wrong places... looking for my muse in too many faces... I believe you speak the truth my muse is me...

Does your muse has a friend? Seemingly, I have writer's block these days.

I love the approach you took with this contest, your muse is yourself, and of course your soul is always with you.

Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for reading, reviewing and your kind comments, oh and the good luck wishes. MMMM, I will have to check with my muse about a friend lol. My suggestion would be to walk away from writing for a day, maybe two and do something totally unusual for you. It works for me.

I love the fact that you are your own "muse." I like the rhyming pattern of your poem and line, "creative part of my mind..." was a line that I could relate too. Good luck in the contest.
