I really did enjoy this as it reflects many of my own feelings about this religion thing. You final line is magnificent though I feel that I have seen something very like it before, maybe from your good self.
The stanza I liked best of all though was this.
'A faith announced in righteous vein,
Expounded with pomposity,
Can in itself be quite profane;
A tool of terse credulity.'
It sums up most of what I feel about religion. I went to a church school, originally founded for the sons of clergymen, and I was fed that exponded pomposity for several years.

As usual your rhyme and meter is great and the subject rolls along interestingly, if a little controversially. Not to worry. We are all entitled to our opinion.... unless the PC brigade/zealots disagree with it of course.
Just to show that I've learned my lesson, I was about to take you to task for the rhyme in the following....
"But when the question is of GOD
Or His existence at the core,
I must admit that I am AWED,
Because each question raises more".
.... until I realized that you strange people don't speak the Queen's English and indeed God and awed DO rhyme in your otherworldly dominions. LOL! Where I come from "awed" rhymes with "core" so the rhyme scheme here would read as ABBB.
Nice work, regardless.

The poetry is magnificent. And the answer to your question will long be argued. I personally am a believer, a judgement I concede originally based on a Catholic upbringing but of more recent times based on what I see as a simplistic, and logical assessment. In my simple mind, I feel life would indeed be the ultimate exercise in futility if there is no hereafter. What was the purpose of spending 80 or 90 years on earth if there's nothing more? To me it's akin to working for a boss for 50 years for no pay. It doesn't make sense.

The age old question to believe or not to believe and you are toying with ideas here and it always boils down to how we were raised I think, and then there are some who rely on their faith for guidance. Whatever we believe, how we conduct ourselves within our communities is the most important proof of living a good and honest life, love Dolly x

This is a question that nobody will ever be able to answer with any certainty. We each get to believe what we want to believe, and it's my belief that God is love embodied so wherever there is love shown, there is God. That's good enough for me.
