Most people don't have the grit to stick with it like you did. They accept the doctor's diagnosis and wallow in self-pity.
Recover and even maintenance can be painful, but like you said you had a goal. I liked the idea of collecting race-shirts, making a woobie and showing the doctor that you DID it.
This success story should give courage to those who might hesitate in their recovery.
Way to go!
Fine writing.

Thanks for reading. To date I've done 54 5Ks and the T-shirts are at my wife's aunt's to be put together.

A very engaging story. I myself am physically disabled so I know how frustrating therapy can be. I don't usually nitpick but there are a few grammar errors. I don't see a period separating sentences in the first three sentences. I would also suggest putting your section titles (Road To Recovery) in bold-type. That would make the following paragraphs stand out and will help the reader keep track of the stages/milestones of your story. Good job. I look forward to more writing.

Thanks for your pointers. I couldn't find a way to bold the headers in the story, they were bolded in my original

Well, you showed the world they did not know your tenacity. Your story read well. It is organized logically and interesting. I did not think it was too long. You had some great people around you (Anna, for one) to motivate you plus your own determination. Way to go. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes. Jan

You are such an inspiration. I enjoyed reading your story, you just kept going despite all the obstacles. This is a great story for others who have back/hip/ leg issues. There can be a light at the end of the tunnel and I congratulate you on your medals.

What an inspiring story. At any point you could have given up and accepted the doctors advice. Good on you for refusing to give up. The story reads very well. Good pace and flow. Every day we get up and continue we win. One question, what's a woobie! Excellent. Hugh
