More morbid smiles than out and out laughing here. Mary is such a cold and callous woman...lol

to pick some brussels sprouts for dinner,
Then keeled over and died". - then should be lower case and the punctuation should be inside as it is in the rest of the piece.

Well, Jean I just had to open - insert a comma after Jean.

I've corrected the careless mistakes. Better late than never eh?

Well done! Mary is not a very deep, sentimental woman but a practical one! This piece made me smile. Thank you. We all need more humor these days.
Kindest regards to you and yours,
Sally

Leave it to a woman to be practical! What else would you do? He definitely wasn't bringing in the brussel sprouts.

Very well written and quite humorous.
Best of luck in the contest.

Well, you always gotta look at the bright side of situations like this 'cause every dark cloud has a silver lining.
Or so it's been said.
Mary didn't want to let a perfectly good dinner go to waste.
After all, I doubt very seriously that John cared what side dishes were being served at that point. Plus, John was already in the garden and garden soil is very soft and easy to dig holes in. So there was that as well.
All-in-all it could have turned out a lot worse for everyone...with the exception of John, of course.
I mean, c'mon.
Dead is dead...
Good luck to you in the contest.

This fifty-word story, Brussels Sprouts, keeps within the limited text and is a super funny story within thsi brief format.

Oh my...this was enjoyable. I am amazed you pulled this little story off in only 50 words! Even though you didn't have to have a "complete" story...you did! Great job. Your sense of humor shone through! Good luck.

I really liked this response to the fifty word prompt. When asked how her poor husband died, she responds, "John ran into the garden to pick some Brussels sprouts for dinner, he keeled over" "then what?" I opened a can of peas. Well done, hilarious great job, blessings, Roy

Oh! My! Glad this was fiction. It does have a certain element of humor with a twist. Luckily Mary had the peas. Best Wishes with the contest. Made me laugh.

Sooo funny!! Dying for some vegetables ... indeed.
The can of peas at the end was a great punch line. I take it she still had dinner while he lay dead in the garden. What a visual.
Good luck in the contest.

I think this prompt begs for public domain jokes. And this entry is exactly what it is calling for. Correct grammar, fifty words as required, and a chuckle. Excellent.
