What a poignant, nostalgic write, estory. Images of times past, emotions now lost to the wind, footsteps retraced and traced again, you've covered the breadth of life and and past in one full swoop! The simplistic presentation, the formatting, the carefully chosen verbiage all secure a very poignant, easy to follow, significant read. I thoroughly enjoyed how you personified all things lost, misplaced, abandoned, or broken ... great job.

Thanks again for this six star review; I appreciate the support, and the wonderful comments validating the work in the poem. It was fun to write. This is the opening of a new book of poetry, Fragmentation, I will be posting from in the coming months, so I hope you will continue to enjoy it. Some of these are some of my favorite poems. estory

Hi Estory, and I think you have succeeded in making music in language in a more contemporary way. I like your poem a lot and how you go through the different stages that life consists of. I especially liked:
Like so many knickknacks
On so many shelves
In so many rooms
In so many apartments
Abandoned
I know I'm late. I've fallen behind trying to catch up. All the best, Ulla:))

Thanks so much for your wonderful review and your interesting perspective on the poem. I am happy that I seem to have succeeded in my aim, here. I'm always surprised by what other people like about the poems; this wasn't really one of my favorite parts of it, I think I like the beginning, and the end of it better; but that's the beauty of letting the poems go and watching what they become to many different people. I appreciate the support as always, estory

Thanks for this excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting this poem. I'm glad it made you think of those forgotten things, those lost relationships, those misplaced moments that we all have tucked away in our closets and knickknack shelves. I wanted an image to bring together the element of poignancy and triviality. estory

I love the compelling notion of your words. Accumulation of "stuff" we gather and praise seems to find its way into being labeled obsolete. Loved your "crumbling monuments"... technology seems to be adding another layer to this issue... Well-written. You left me pondering some things...

I appreciate this five star rating and your support of this poem. I love to make people think, and when the poems take off like this I think its the most rewarding. I try to write them obtuse enough so they can become different things to different people. estory

Your poem reminds me of this country's unwillingness and negligence to preserve history by knocking down archeticture which breeds curiosity and inspires growth. Lovely poem.

Thanks for the excellent review and this interesting perspective on the poem. This was really a poem about the little moments of life that get lost, mislaid, and erased on our journey through it; the images of the flags on the moon and the monuments crumbling are metaphors of past experiences disappearing, or disappointing. But I try to write them obtuse enough for them to become different things to different people; so I am glad the poem became something for you estory

I collect books, estory.
Not those bull sh!t digital copies but real, honest-to-goodness books with a spine and pages and a dust cover. I have several signed editions from authors Stephen King, Clive Barker, Dean Koontz, Robert Bloch, Joe R. Landsdale, Ray Bradbury, Harlin Ellison, and William Peter Blatty, just to name a few.
It is the only thing I collect -- my Achilles heel as far as finances are concerned.
Having said that I'd like to think the things I accumulate have real value.
Anything thought of as having sentimental value - that stuff from past relationships, for example - I toss in the waste bin.
Who needs it?
Unless you classify photographs as relics.
I have tons of those.
Excellent free verse poem. Very well penned.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the poem; I am glad that it made you think of all the little things you accumulate over a lifetime. Things that end up being poignant, and things that end up amounting to nothing, and things that are disappointments. In the end, when we leave this Earth, there isn't much left. And the world moves on without us. estory

Absolutely true of the entire human experience. It is all just stuff. From fading photos, to fading memories. Even the large moments will eventually be forgotten. But they are all important evidence of lives built, and lived. Lovely.
Blessings...

Fragments...but still they are memorable .because you have written about them....writing takes on a life of its own...if and when we die because we are writers some one will think something, learn something be something different because we wrote...
God bless

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your wonderful comments and perspective on this poem. yes, perhaps the best thing about being a write is that something will be left behind, and it might become something meaningful to those who still live on here. Hopefully it will make them think of life, and encourage them to make the most of it while it lasts. estory
