So the speaker hear is a pilot of history buff or both. The words give the feeling of freedom a pilot probably feels when looking out. I know that feeling somewhat from my rides in a glider and a bi-plane. Two other pieces of history.

Your inner life has just left you as you have taken off with such power and pressure, forming a bond with those that had fought and died in these machines, while wondering why these powerful crafts had to be made at all, as they just contributed to war and sacrifice, in my re-reading and trying to understand I had to go back and read again for my own pleasure, I believe I have put the two together, and thank you so much for answering my plea for help on your work****kahpot

Smile. I think you basically always figure it out. Thank you.

Your notes are 100% correct. All governments are inherently evil, and it seems that there is inevitability that history will continue to repeat itself. I chose law and political science for a career...
It's not meant for people with souls anymore unfortunately.

This poem is extremely poignant! What a powerful message to share with others about the history of WWII. I like the short verses that still say so much. Your ending is so solid!

I can't put into words the admiration of air travel the way you do, Victor. But I've often thought of the fact that not so many years ago, from where I live, it would have taken six months to get California by, stage coach and wagon train, if you survived. Now, I can catch a nine a.m. flight and because of the time difference, I can still have breakfast in CA the same day. I enjoyed your historical perspective. Best wishes.

An inspiring piece of writing Victor. Strange how the mind works. Your poem is backed up by some good, sound notes. Very well done. Warm regards Dorothy

Thank you, dear.

I liked the fragmented construction, the fragmented experience of life it articulates. But it is a little weird to equate jet travel with Nazi Germany. I know the Nazis invented the jet engine and the rocket motor, but these things have taken on a life of their own independent of Nazi Germany. International travel would be unimaginable without it. I would never have been able to see Europe without it, or meet my cousins there. I don't really think of jet engines as necessarily evil; its what we do with them. estory

Naturally, I cannot, and will not, argue. I simply state how it hit me. Thank you.

To understand this poem better I had to research this aircraft a little. When I had done so I realised that this poem is an extended metaphor for America, a brilliant idea whose development was hindered and delayed by squabbles and arguments, not to mention clashes of priorities so that it arrived on the scene too late to make a material difference.
You will be in trouble with your countrymen for this, but I doubt if that worries you.

A very well-written poem about life of humans who seem to struggle to stay humble and honest when they are placed in a power position. They give in to greed and will do anything for extra money.

I love your constitutional where your forefathers wrote down the rules of justice. Unfortunately, due to corrupt men, the message if forgotten. This poem reminds me of how great America was, and could be again if you get rid of certain presidents. Thank you for sharing.
