Hi Aussie,

Heartbreaking, isn't it - what the fossil fuel industry has done to our planet?

They knew many decades ago - proof recently surfaced. It is being litigated in the States.

Lovely image you have selected, which complements your eloquent verse effectively.

In addition to prayer, I always suggest contacting legislators and DEMADING this be addressed.

Thank you for tackling this problem.

Thanks for reading friend. We are used to drought and flooding rains. That is the nature of Australia. Lately. the north of Queensland is so flooded it's unliveable. Out in the cattle country, thousands of beasts are dead from the floods passed over from the devastating rains. Twenty-thousand coastal dwellers are homeless. This has never happened in my lifetime. We pray for the farmers who have lost thousands of cattle,; their livelihood swept away. They are resilient farmers; they can't be this time. Blessings, Kay.

You made your point here in your acrostic poem and Australia is prone to drought and much wild life suffers. In Tenerife we would suffer the same if were not for the water plants on the island, we never have rain here. love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly. Aust. is in big trouble. The cattle industry may never recover this time. And, 20,000 people are homeless from relentless rain on the coast. We are on the coast (safe) still, 34 days of heatwave conditions. Never experienced this before. Well, not in my 74 yrs. There has to be a rainbow behind the clouds we pray. Love, kay XX

This is a superb acrostic entry for this contest with the added bonus of excellent rhyme too. I honestly wish you all the best in this contest. This should be a top contender.

This is a fantastic acrostic K. Each line has clear meaning as it moves forward the theme of drought and all the while juxtaposed against water, water everywhere, but none of it suitable for drinking.

Superb entry into the contest and I wish you great luck and rain. :)

Hello Glorious Gloria! Thanks so much for your stunning review. We wait and pray, the fires have started already and we are still in winter. Love, Kay.

You captured my heart with this picture of the dolphin. They need to find a way to purify the salt water so everyone can have water to feed their stock.

G'day country girl. Thanks for reading my friend. Many places have salt water extraction, in the outback there is no sea water.
    :-0 love, Kay.

This really is a devastating drought. Your picture reminds me of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner - 'water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink'.
We're getting a bit of rain down here now, but scarcely enough to put a puddle in the bottom of the dams. I've just bought a few new bobby calves, in the hope that there'll be some pasture for them by the Spring - on the basis that it can't go on like this for ever.

It's a sad state of affairs for farmers. We are trucking feed donated, thousands of miles to the outback stations. I envisage no farmers on the land one day, we will be importing beef (not that I can afford those prices.) Did you buy the calves for meat?
Are bobby calves like the black low line calves, small like big dogs? Got the flu at mo' it's going around. Avagoodweekend and don't forget the Aeroguard! Silly weather, 27 c today! Love, Kay.

That is an excellent acrostic, Kay, for the contest. You've used the terrible dilemma that Australia is facing to write a really good poem, We had a long heatwave for the UK it lasted about 9 weeks, but this week we've had loads of rain. :) Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Hello Mrs Seagull, Send some rain our way. Glad you liked the poem, won't win a contest. The moneyed folks seem to buy their way except for the talented like you. Remember when you were at the bottom of the ladder? Now you can flap your golden wings and thumb your nose. I have a dose of the flu, feel lousy. Love to you both XXX Kay.

I find Acrostic poetry particularly difficult to write with style and meaning. Yet you managed to write in rhyming couplets within the constraints of the acrostic formula while developing a clear, focused theme. Well done! The rhythm of second stanza flows easily. However, the first stanza stumbles a bit in its rhythm. Your descriptive word choice pleasantly caught my attention as well.

Hello new friend, thanks for reading. I have the flu and my head isn't screwed on to writing proper poetry. I find acrostics a challenge. I will look at the first stanza. Cheers, Kay.

Hello, my new friend. We have learnt to live with drought, never seen it like this. Worst drought in 100 yrs. We are trucking feed donated to the farmers on the land. The men drive in convoys for thousands of miles. Blessings to you today and every day. Kay XX.
