Hmm, she is a very clever lady. She already knows more about Charles than he knows about her. In fact, he still only knows what he learnt from her handbag, and that wasn't much and certainly in no way explains what happened a few days ago. You are drip feeding us, Tony, making us want more, and that's what writing is all about! Well done, my friend, another wonderful chapter. :) Sandra xx

Very many thanks for your review, Sandra. Glad you are enjoying it. It looks as if she's running rings around poor old Charles. I hope he survives it! All the best, Tony

I like how you give us the two conflicting feelings that the narrator has about this rather pushy Helen character. Good progress in this chapter showing us more about the main characters as well as weaving more about Maupassant in the process!

Suspenseful chapter. Vivid imagery used throughout. Smooth flow. Good conversation with "Tony". Held interest all the way. Well done!

Thanks, Brett. I appreciate your review. I'm hoping Tony will fade out of this gradually. I'm not sure that I want to be associated with Charles. He seems to be developing into rather a weak-kneed character!

Nice job with this suspenseful story. I liked this chapter. You raise all those mystery questions at the beginning, and then comes this meeting with this woman in this romantic setting, and some interesting dialogue, as they kind of dance around each other. These is tension as well as attraction in the air, and we sense his forboding, his desire to hold her at a distance, until he knows more about her, and at the same time, he is attracted by her beauty and nice manners. She seems mysterious; interested in him...but for what? estory

Yes, I'm beginning to wonder what she sees in him. She seems to be a bit out of his league. Perhaps there is a motive concealed below the surface.

I truly wish I had six stars for this chapter, Tony. It is just simply sowell written from start to finish, my friend. Great imagery and passages like thid:

" I saw her arrive. There was a sensual sway to her step, a delicacy of movement and an understated elegance in the cut of her casual ivory blouse and red culottes. Only a blue beret was lacking to complete the patriotic colour scheme. She stopped at the entrance and glanced up and down the street before going in through the heavy wrought iron gates. "

Great job, Tony! B ob
I am so glad I caught this chapter/

Tony,

I am soooo pleased to be reading this. *smile* Your writing, always good, has increased to a pivotal point telling this story. It seems to flow so fresh and easy -- and you know they say when it seems easiest, is when it's the hardest. ha

I am really enjoying this and look forward to more! Thanks!

LOL, I really got a charge out of the whole purse interaction. Especially you can call me Helen if you don't consider that too informal. Of course not Miss Culverson. lol

I much enjoy the little asides into each character's psyche. It works well in this dance of seduction.

I've taken lodgings in Montmatre for the moment. Did you mean Montmartre?

I most enjoyed the balance and flow of this chapter, Tony.

Gloria

Thanks for your comments here about balance and flow, Gloria. It's always good to hear what works for individual readers. I appreciate the heads up on Montmartre, too - an unfortunate typo!

I'm not sure I like this woman. She seems very devious, and I'm afraid this young man is in for big trouble.

Each chapter ends with a hook I can't resist.

Yes, I'm afraid she is revealing herself as rather a nasty piece of work! I hope that Charles survives!

I love the conversation Tony. Very snappy, with two witty raconteurs engaging with verbal sabres in mental combat. I spent a brief weekend in Paris, in 1998 on a rushed trip from London, in a motor car, so my familiarity with the great city is limited, (my wife Elaine, knows it better) but I'm enjoying seeing Paris through your eyes. And excellent write, blessings, Roy
