This six-word poem, Droughts Widows, uses three lines and nine syllables to bring the drought into its most dangerous possibilities. The suffering by all, the farmers who lose crops, the people who choose to end their lives. Horrid.

I've always seen farming as gambling, but with a lot more work involved. You have to really love the land and the live style because weather can turn on you any time. I appreciate your poem and your concern. I wish you and the Australian farmers well.

I like how you made this six word poem as a kind of selection of news headlines. It's a terrible thing when there is a drought and so many people suffer. Thanks for making us all aware. Hope the rains come soon.

Hi Chrissy, this is very good. Your subject is very relevant to the present situation - not just in Aussie land but everywhere - even in Britain, unbelievable as that may sound. It is becoming a frightening situation. To change the subject - hope you had a good holiday in Bali - I bet you are glad you did not go the island alongside Bali - Lombok. It seems the world is in turmoil. Well written piece and good luck in the contest - 6 good words! Dorothy xx

This is excellent, Christine. Charity does begin at home and I immediately equated it with our new president here. He is focusing on his own people for a change, which is certainly refreshing. I know what these farmers are going through as I had this experience with a farm when I lived in California, rationing, etc. Discouraging. I heard of the quakes in Bali and wondered if you were there. You said you were taking a vacation there again. I hope you're okay. Hugs, Marilyn

A very well-written heartfelt poem that speaks of desperation. The farmers comit suicide because of drought and no assistance from the government. Leaving grieving widows behind.
