I like the less traditional AABB rhyme sceme here...it gives your piece a rhyming couplet feel while coming together to tell a moving tale. Sometimes tragedy turns to triumph with faith and people pulling together. You drew me in with your tone and cadence and kept me right through to your meaningful final line!

Excellent poem! This is a poem that sounds about justice for this person. He lost everything and after he won it back. A true calling inspirational poem. I like it. Nice.

You misled me with your description line. Excellent. I was waiting for a gunfight and
instead got an uplifting father and son story. That was such a nice surprise. You are a good story teller. You understand reader's reactions and use that knowledge to create suspense and surprise. The poignant ending is more special that way.
Great story. I love your style.

I must confess when I started the poem I was thinking along those lines, but somehow it changed direction and I'm glad it did. Thank you for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate your comments.

I love this story in a poem. It really deserves six stars but sadly I have none left. I love the fast pace and excellent rhyme. You have really nailed it with this one Bob. Cheers. Jen.

Really well done, great rhyme and meter. Great story as well. It shows how a heart can be turned with a bit of kindness. It is something we all need to remember. A kind word turns away wrath. Rox

This is awesome!! I feel like it should be a song in a Clint Eastwood movie... Or maybe John Wayne. They just don't make good western movies anymore but this would be the perfect story for one. I love how the story is told, beginning to end, and it's easy to visualize your characters. Great job!!

Oh, what a relief. I was set for tragedy.
I saw absolutely no typos and the structure of the poem, stanza to stanza, flowed naturally. It held interest which often is difficult in story poems to do. I really hung on, feeling insecure about whether the preacher/father's life example would remain solid in the congregants and son.
Once more, would like to have awarded a 6 but they are gone.

This is a good story in a poem Bob and again good over-comes evil and restores the relationship of a father and son. Satan will stir up trouble as often as he can, but faith in God can win out every time. Good job. Nancy

Thank you Nancy for the complimentary review. I agree with you, that old 'S' guy sure knows how to stir up trouble. Glad to know you enjoyed the poem.

A great story within a poem. Different times have different results and in this case, the burning of a church and beating the preacher definitely produced the strength of the town and community and restored father and son. It was well written, had a comfortable reading flow and a great rhyme pattern. I found the color choice with the red background somewhat enhanced the words. Thanks for sharing, well done.

Hi, Bob. Well done story in a poem. sort of a ballad, I think. It cold be called "The ballad of the Preacher's Son" or somethoing similar.

The religious overtones bring life to the tale. Well done. Bob

Like your suggestion on the name. You make it sound like a Johnny Cash song. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Bob. Can I buy your published books on Amazon? What are the titles again?
