A deserving winner - congrats. Whimsical and imaginative! Makes me wish I had a six, and makes me want to check out some of your other writings (which I shall start doing immediately.

Love the rhymes (especially wrists - psychiatrist)!

I also love the POV - the speaker just off her rocker enough to take us on a humorous ride. Well done!

    Thank you so much Mark. I am glad you enjoyed it. I was quiet shocked by the win as i read many of the other entries and felt I hadn't a chance. The committee was in a humorous mood that day. =} Your words are most encouraging and made my day. =}

So why did the police put the speaker in jail. It is more likely that she needs to be in the psychiatric ward than in a jail cell. Maybe it was for making a false police report.
This is a cute poem and it has a smooth songlike meter.

Congrats on winning the contest.

Keep writing

    Well you know the police. They hate to give up a collar. =} Plus they had to be sure I'm insane because I would have to sue if I'm not. No police dept wants a lawsuit. At least that's what the gnome told me. Thanks so much for the review and the congrats. No one was more surprised than me that I won. The committee was in a very generous mood that day. =}

I enjoyed your storytelling with its twist and turn toward the end. Your telling the tale in rhymed couplets is quite effective. It's no wonder it won the contest--congratulations! Cheers- Joan

    Thank you so much. I was so shocked as it is a bit silly and after reading others in the contest, felt I stood no chance. So was a huge surprise to see the notice in my Messages last night! The committee must have felt in a silly mood. =} Thank you again.

This is absolutely adorable. I like the way the story builds and, to your credit, the line about being in handcuffs caught me by surprise. The charming story and fun rhymes made me want to see what happened next. Well done. I'm in the Share a Story in a Poem contest too, and it's always good to have worthy competition.

    Thank you so much Michele. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. We don't vote in a FanStory sponsored contest right? Do you know how the winner is picked? Does a panel do it? I don't think I've enter a sponsored contest before or it's been a really long time. Thank you so much again. Rox

    Unfortunately I'm not much help as I'm fairly new to the site (~6 weeks). From what I've read on the site, voting is done by a panel, but I don't know how that panel is chosen. Anyway, I wish us both luck. If I do lose to you, I'll know I lost to a worthy opponent. :-)

    I've been on the site about 7yrs so you think I would know a few things. ={ I guess I should pay more attention. I have won only twice and one was a tie so the prize money was split. It was just member bucks with I like too, and members voted in those contests. I hope you are liking the site. I feel it is the best I have been on. It has changed greatly in the last few years. I was off it about 2 yrs and find it so different, but still one of the best. I feel the same if I lose to you.

    Thank you. I'm flattered. I do like the site, and have "met" some very nice people, such as you. I did have one bad experience that had me considering leaving the site, though. I try to judge fairly and, often, I'm able to give 5-star ratings but, twice, when I didn't, people actually came back at me angrily. The one (to whom I'd given 4 stars) who made me want to leave the site criticized my critique, accused me of not doing my research (why should I need to research statements she makes in her poetry??!!), and then snarkily said, "I guess that's why you don't get a lot of comments." Actually, my reason for not getting a lot of comments was not being familiar with the various ways of moving a poem up the list to get more readership, but I was so offended that she would snipe at me like that for an honest review. As it happened, the next two poems she posted I thought were much better, and gave them the 5-star ratings I felt they deserved, since we're judging poetry on this site, and not personality. She then gave me very enthusiastic responses and has, to my great shock, become my second fan. Outside of the two people who couldn't take corrective criticism, I've found the people on the site very pleasant and friendly.

    They are not supposed to get angry and come back at you like that. It is against the rules. There are some who think they are above the rest of us. I had one do 3 page corrections every time on my book. He finally quit, I think he got tired of me. It was kind of funny. I never got upset at him and just thanked him for all the help. But I did get to where I dreaded my reviews and was so nervous when I posted. I was kind of glad when he quit. He does write very well, but is very violent and I didn't enjoy his stuff that much even though there was never an error. I had one get very upset over his hatred of Donald Trump. He said he had to make up words to insult him he had run out. He didn't like my review of that at all. I mean come on, get over it already. =} One of the people I read told me someone told her to go back to her home country! So people can be very touchy, but I too have run into very few. I have some who feel they always have to point something out and if I say well this is what the experts have said, they say, well I disagree. So funny. I hope you don't get anymore nasty people and if you do, just blow them off. They are being bad! It is funny that the one became a fan. You just never know about people. Just keep writing. I'm going to fan you as well. I think one can never have enough fans. =}

    Hi Roxanna. Thanks again for fanning me. You're right about the people who came back at me for star rankings/ reviews they disagreed with. I had also read the rules that discourage that, and the fact that they chose to go against them was a large part of my considering leaving the site. On the flip side of the coin, I had a gentleman who gave me a good rating on my poem, but had issues with one stanza and offered suggested edits. I read his comments and, while I didn't use his specific rewrite suggestions, I did edit the stanza to address his concern. As I told him in response to his comments, "With the exception of sunsets and rainbows, there are few things in life so good they can't be improved." I guess my two naysayers considered themselves sunsets and rainbows. I'm glad your overanxious reviewer gave up, so you could get back to writing and enjoying it.

Hi, Rox,

Such a cute story. It was a bit like flash-fiction in a poem - with just the right amount of twist at the end. I do hope they didn't keep you in the psych ward for too long - with only the gnome for a visitor - it could be a loooong stay.

Great rhymes and a wonderful poem - good luck to you,

~patty~
