I looked it up in my Funk & Wagnalls. Here's what it said: Augean (o-je-an) filthy, corrupt. In Greek mythology, the stables of Augeas kept 3000 oxen which, uncleaned for 30 years, were cleaned in a day when Hercules turned the river Alpheus through them. Limerick was a good choice since limericks are usually a bit off-color anyway. Marilyn

Yep, that's where the word comes from. I decided my rant was long enough without going into that - but I'm stoked that at least one person is interested enough to find out :) Thanks for sharing, Marilyn. Also, thanks for yet one more pronunciation. I'm sure there are more. Cheers - Craig

I found this delightful to read. The author's notes were educational and thorough. I was German born and had a hard time with English because of the double meanings or sarcasm of words. I learned both! Thanks for sharing.

Have a great weekend.
Brigitte

Thanks very much for the kind comments, Brigitte. I'm glad you enjoyed, and I'm glad you were able to confirm my suspicions about the difficulty non-native speakers of the language must face. Have a fun weekend yourself. Craig
