Very good. I enjoyed reading this scary poem. I saw two stories on the news today about alligators and humans. Image is perfect for your poem. Last two lines sum it up. Marilyn

Comment from Gloria ....
This is a terrific poem that boys and girls of ten years and younger can totally relate to, Diana.
The photo is a perfect match, little fashion plate that she is.
Excellent work and a pleasure to read,
Gloria

I have always had a dread of alligators and crocodiles. Yet when I was a child I would play a record (remember those?) of the story of Peter Pan. On the back of it was, of course, a copy of the song "Never Smile at a Crocodile".
They still disturb me (thank you very much, Crocodile Dundee for that wonderful jump-scare!), but fascinate me at the same time.
Your poem brought back memories of my younger days, but in a way that made them fun to remember. Thanks for that.

I love this..it's amazing when you are young the crazy things you do without fear. My brother tied a cape around himself and jumped off the 2nd floor porch playing superman. That got him a broken arm. Those are wonderful times though, with great memories made. Thanks for sharing your story and picture( is that you)?

Hey Boogienights... thanks so much for your stellar review. I did the same as your brother when I was a kid I would jump off our roof... What an idiot! Yours, diana

The naivety of youth is important and what is just as important is when that naivety is broken. It is an important moment that all of us must face. Excellent work!

Art Asylum, your poem is refreshing in it's originality. The young child, trusting and open to the world, ignoring "evil alligators" lurking nearby until one day...
I remember my first tock of my fear clock... hello world.
Great post and image to present with it. Well done!

Ahh, kids and their fearlessness! Stephen King's The Raft comes to mind here - I know people who wouldn't even swim in a farm pond up north after reading that! Good poem!

Awhhh this is a class poem. I loved the motion throughout. I could feel her in the water and being 10 years of age. Nice word choice throughout. I really liked the line My blank brain attracted strife. It makes me think of swimming in a gravel pit when I was 18. There was water snakes but we never worried. Good job. Keep writing, Cheers, Brian
