Ah, huge indeed, and slobberers every one...but a sweeter more gentle breed of dog I've never known! Even your photo made me smile! Our neighbors had one for years and she was just the biggest most playful baby ever....

My one complaint about where I live is there are no pets allowed. I miss the snuggling!

Ironically I am watching Stephen King's movie CUJO as I write this review.
What are the odds of that happening?
Yeah, that's a whole lotta dog, that's fer sure!
A dog that massive must weigh in excess of 120 pounds or more. That's 8.57143 stone for our British brethren.
I can't stand it when someone loses a beloved pet only to have people tell them things like, "Oh, come on, now--get over it. It's just a dog, for cryin' out loud!"
No, I beg to differ, our pets are NOT "just" _____________<----(insert species of choice here) or animals. They are as much a part of our family as any human being might be.
When they go, we miss them terribly.
I've had my seven-pound Chihuahua, Gidget, for 17 long years now. She's been a faithful, loving and loyal companion and helped me get through some very tough times.
We are both getting on in age.
I wish I had her here forever.
Nice work, Pam, as usual.

How cute, Dean! Adorable she is. My husband does not like dogs. We have
A cat, a mama?s boy. If my husband predecessors me, I want to get a chihuahua and have it use the potty green thing. Thank you for your wonderful review and excellent rating

I can relate. I used to raise Great Danes. The worst thing that can be said about them is they slobber a lot.

Large dogs are always the most gentle.

    Hi. We had a great
Dane as well. But he bit kids so we had to hope he could be rehabilitated. Compared to Dolly he slobbered very little. St Bernard?s and bulldogs. Thank you for your wonderful review and excellent rating

I would think 13 years for a dog that massive is pretty good going. This is a lovely poem about a lovely subject - the true joy that can be shared between a human and a canine. They can be such wonderful companions, and often give so much while asking so little. Delightful story about your very aptly named friend. Well done - Craig

"Monster", is an extremely well-written and heart-wrenching piece. The pets of our childhood become a permanent part of our lives. So many years later, their presence lives on. It was a pleasure to both read and review this talented poet's work I look forward to seeing your next post. To me, this is definitely a six.

Whoa, those St Bernard's are so big and yep they really do slobber a lot, so it's not a fun ride in the car with the Bernard's in the back seat.

Beautiful poem in tribute to Dolly. It sounds like she had a big, big heart.

Excellent poem, Pam.

Ahhhh... such is the joy that animals bring to us... they enrich our lives, act as teachers, confidants, playmates, and help us to learn how to love... without demands, without the heavy toll of expectations, with freedom, with pure joy and never hold back showing how they feel... well, at least for dogs anyway... your Dolly sounds like one big love-fur-ball.... a sweetheart, that is kissable, lovable and adorable... a beauty in the beast.. my favorite line of yours is "...When out with my dog there's naught that compares
to romping with her away from my cares ..." -- it reminds me of how much fun it was to romp and play with my dogs... it makes one forget troubles and cares, and brings joy to our hearts, and a smile to our face... thank you for sharing this delightful Poem!
