Congratulations on a great 5-7-5, Michael. I think your cause is a good one to protect children, but it isn't the second amendment they need to fear as much as mental illness and terrorists getting into our country through liberal policys. Like liquor, guns, and other causes, it wasn't the gun or the drink, but the human behind the gun without any mental illness programs and the human alcoholic who isn't in control of his drinking.

Doing away with the second amendment will not do away with a black market or protect schools or night clubs or concerts or ball games or any large crowd events. It will just take guns away from law abiding citizens trying to keep their schools safe or their churches where it was a civilian with a gun that came to the rescue and prevented further loss of life.

I really didn't mean to get in a debate, I just wanted to give you the fifteenth review as a gift for being such a great writer even though I beg to disagree with you on the "how"!

    Hi, Ginny

How very nice of you to notice I needed that extra review. :))

I realize with such a short piece that I'm stating way more than I mean to say. LOL I'm not really for eliminating the second amendment. I'm just for better controls. The father was irresponsible in not having his weapons secure. I agree with the need for better mental health care as well. That is an area I'm familiar with as a caregiver. Cutbacks aren't helping. I agree we shouldn't let terrorists in the country either.

I appreciate your fair review on the writing merits AND I'm pleased to hear your opinions as well, especially since you present them beautifully and with sense. We can still go to McDonalds, yes? :)) Thanks a million, mike

Michael, you are such a talented and thought provoking writer! I enjoy your poems, pen, and creativity. Yes, my friend, MacDonalds sounds interesting as long as we don?t end up in MacDonald?s House, another great cause! Thank you for another bit of wit! :). Enjoy another accolade, recognized writer.

Great sentiment -- now can it become a national movement and national voice before the mid-term elections? AS the students from the last school shooting pointed out, so many politicians are backed by the NRA and are afraid to offend them.

I think this is a good entry for the 5-7-5 writing prompt.
Your short verse has a clear and strong message.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.

This 5-7-5, Are You Afraid of the NRA?, has the right look and puts the importance of constitutional guarantees up against lunatics with guns and the future generation.

Hi there,

This is certainly the best I've read so far (I'm halfway through). It feels organic and has something to say.

Good job

Thank you! Mine either! It's a pity this is what it takes to get people out to vote. I just don't understand people. Excellent use of artwork and words delivers a clear message about priorities. Blue tide 2018!

This carries a strong message. The reader will be drawn to see what they feel about this poem. Some will not even finish it because they don't to face the truth about "the elephant in the living room" too much easier to use distraction. This actually would make a good chant for a group at the protests. It could easily be said over a megaphone. Try it. I do it by making my hands into a megaphone. Well expressed. You have my vote for the contest.

Well done for the contest. However, the second amendment has little to do with preventing a child's death. Just yesterday, a school bus crash caused a number of deaths because the driver was speeding. Plane crashes kill multiple peoples at one time. Drunk drivers kill more. War kill millions. Even diseases claim millions more. Guns are just one more means. Banning them won't prevent all the other means.

This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem. These three lines are so powerful and has lots of imagery and emotions. We must vote these people out of office so that we can see some changes. Our children lives depend on it.

Yes, how true. We fear change and giving up our automatic weapons more than we care about the welfare of our children. Is this how we "Make America Great Again"? This is an important message. Best wishes.
