Hi Craig. Slurvian--I certainly read a lot of that, even on this site. Most of the time I skip over politically biased writes. In your case, I'm making the effort to correct some misconceptions because I think you're one of the few who may be open minded and has discernible common sense.

As you know I am a staunch conservative woman. Wayne LaPierre touting the preservation of an American constitutional right. Most conservatives DO have guns and hell will freeze over before that changes. Conservative gun owners are the responsible people. The culprits are the mentally ill, gangs, and fanatics. If anyone is at fault (besides the perpetrator) it's the American court system (very liberal) which forbids arresting these dangerous people (due to privacy laws) before they do harm. So liberals are the very ones who are perpetuating the problem.

Regarding equality--I am assuming this is a reference to immigration. Everyone wants to come to America, but it is impossible for us to take in the entire world. People MUST come here legally as our laws already on our books state--then they are welcome.

No other country will tolerate being overrun by others, even Australia. Your advantage is that you are ocean bound and remote. However your laws and elsewhere, stipulate that newcomers must apply, be accepted legally, have a means to support themselves without being a drain on the taxpayers of that nation, and prove they are not a threat to the rest of society. These are all logical requests.

All that being said, I know I am probably wasting my breath. A good Minute poem for the contest despite its bias and you will probably win. Why? Because it's okay, even championed, to try to silence the opposing viewpoint. Marilyn

Well, I don't want to get into fisticuffs with you, Marilyn - I like you :) The only thing I'll say about your comments is Wayne La Pierre is anything but responsible, or honest, or decent. His treatment, along with his sidekick Dana Loesch, of the families and victims of countless mass shootings, is despicable.

I have no clue who makes up the contest appraisers, how many of them there are, or what their political leanings are. I don't imagine they are selected based on them, but I wouldn't know. How they view my work if it expresses a political bias, I have no clue. It could as easily go against me as for me, quite possibly more likely to, would be my guess. But for myself, I can say I've never, ever tried to silence anyone. I welcome people with views different to mine, whether they want to make them known in reviews, in their own works, or in the forum discussions. It seems to me this claim about people being "silenced" is repeated a lot here - I've yet to see any evidence of it.

In any case, thanks for your comments, which are appreciated, and for the time taken to review my work :)

    Craig

Very good Minute entry which I wish you do well in the contest. Based on whats going on in the political world, I also have a minute presentation that derived from the political world as well. Afterall they're supplying the paint for the picture.

Thanks very much, Mary. They are indeed - what would we do for material without them? Cheers, Craig

Yes, sometimes it does seem politicians to talk a different language, definitely not understandable English. It is sad when they think they are better than others because they are "leaders". We were all created equal according to the document
that we base our country on in the U.S..

Keep writing

Joan

Thanks very much, Joan. The sad thing about political office is that the ones who are best qualified to do the job, don't want it. Cheers, Craig

My pleasure. That is true because they are smart to realize being in office might change themselves and their families.

You have to refer to American politicians if you are talking slurvian. Is that where the word slur derives? Great job with the minute poem. In that format, you were heavily restricted as to how you presented slurvian. I am impressed with your rhymes and skills. As usual.

I don't think there's a direct connection, but apparently "slur" comes from "fluid mud" (slurry?), so it seems to fit. Many thanks for the very kind comments, Debbie - Craig
