That was one of my goals when I wrote the book. The other was to leave my kids and their kids tangible evidence of their legacy. Be cause I wrote this anonymously I am having a hard time promoting it. I am going to ask the Fanstorians who have followed this to request it at their libraries so I can get it on the shelves for those who msy benefit. Thanks for the great review. Just a few chapters left

This is another great chapter and describes the remaining steps to AA well. All a healing process worth completing. Congratulations!

Hi there;

I've never read such a complete and compelling account of dealing with these last steps. Too many folks are simply overjoyed that they got to the first meeting. I've met lots of people who never work the steps at all. (I'm watching and waiting to see if my oldest son will work the steps - he considers himself 'recovered,' without faithfully attending meetings or having a sponsor,) and yet, so many have successfully taken the entire program to heart and live full lives.

Thank you for sharing and may God bless you,

~patty~

Thank you so much. And good luck to your son. I myself am a firm believer in the steps. My oldest, who is referred to as Luke in the book, missed it the first time around in 83 but in 87 came in 3 months before me and is still here. For the last 15 years he has worked in recovery and is an IOP manager for three treatment centers. His brother put down the drink over 4 years ago and has managed to stay sober without a program. So who knows. I just know the program has enhanced every aspect of my life. Only a few chapters to go.

So well written and a happy ending. I am so glad you chose to get help and have done so well and are helping others. It is such a horrible addiction. I have heard that 80% of crime is related to alcohol and drugs and I believe it. Do you know if your ex husband ever go help? Many in my family have quit drinking and smoking. They all smoked from the time they were about 14. I was amazed when so many quit. Your writing is so good, really excellent. I hope you plan to write more books or stories, maybe something just for the fun of it next time. The Lord bless and keep you Dallas. Rox

THANK YOU ROXANNA FOR THE AWESOME REVIEW AND THE BONUS STAR. STILL A FEW MORE CHAPTERS TO GO.
BECAUSE THIS WAS PUBLISHED ANONYMOUSLY, IN KEEPING WITH THE TENETS OF AA, MARKETING HAS BEEN A PROBLEM, SO AT THE END OF THE BOOK I WILL BE ASKING MY FANSTORIAN FRIENDS TO REQUEST IT AT THEIR LOCAL LIBRARIES. I JUST WANT TO GET IT ON THE SHELVES IN AS MANY AREAS AS POSSIBLE. THAT WAY THOSE WHO CAN'T AFFORD IT WILL HAVE ACCESS.

SHAKING THE FAMILY TREE BY DALLAS H
IT CAN ALSO BE ORDERED ON AMAZON OR MOST MAJOR BOOK OUTLETS.

I THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING. DEEPLY APPRECIATED.

I INVITE YOU TO FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER UNDER AUTHOR DALLAS H AND THE SAME ON FACEBOOK.

    HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.

Sorry, I keep thinking each chapter is the end, maybe I just want it to have a happy ending. =} Which I'm sure it does. I will try to put out the word about your book on facebook. I have a page for my book and my card shop. If you don't have one (a FB account), you might think about it as you can put a link on it to places the book can be found or ordered. I have a link that goes right to my card shop. My books are are Amazon, but the publisher put such a high price on the last one I don't advertise it as I know of no one who would spend that. So that one is a loss, but at least it didn't cost me anything to publish it. I am hoping with time the price will come down. You have a great weekend too. Rox

Hi, Alice. Congratulations, first of all. You obviously pulled through the program and still adhere to the steps. I am a recovering alcoholic and hve been 23 years dry. The twelve steps combined with a concientious sponsor saved me, Good Luck and good for you. Well written chapter here,my friend. Bob

Thanks, Bob. Will be 31 years in Aug. Have had some great response. But because it is written anonymously is difficult promoting. I wanted to present it here to see i f I achieved one of my goals and it seems I have. Thanks

Not sure what you mean written anonymously, Alice? ??? It says it is by you. Bob

It was published under Dallas H due to the content and in kepping with the tenets of the program. It is available on Amazon, Books A Million Barnes And Noble and my publisher Written Dreams.

Keep on keeping on and it is and it is doing well. You're getting there and it is rough I know and working those steps works for some and God works for many others, but that is if and only if he is sought. Thanks for sharing.

You summarized this beautifully in your ending poem.

"It's not your assignment, Dallas. Do you see that three letter word God? Quit trying to rob Him of his purpose, and allow Him to perform his job. And remember, you are not Him."

This same message appears in the movie "The Shack" based on the novel. While it doesn't deal with alcoholism, it does offer advice to deal with any emotional trauma we put ourselves through.

Sounds as if you story is still ongoing as it does involve self-control--not easy in times of stress.

Thanks for sharing your story with FS.

Thanks, Shari. I read the book the shack. Didn 't remember that. It is a.pretty common saying in AA. Holds a lot of truth for thoe of us who feel like we need to be in charge

I couldn't get into the book, but enjoyed the movie. It did bother me that Mackensie's killing his father never was brought up.

I did't think it was that well written. It kind of reminded me of The Celestine Prophesy. A memorable message but not very interesting delivery.
reply by Spitfire on 17-May-2018
Yes, it made me think of The Celestine Prophecy. A clever ploy to get metaphysical teachings across.
The writing style probably forced me to abandon the book.

A compelling and heart rendering story. Addiction of any kind is tragic. I have heard so many times how our Lord and saviour, truly saves in these instances. I have not worked in these areas but I admire those who do. Your writing kept me interested and I believe it to be well written.

VEry good. Your understanding of the problem is very deep. You have a way of expressing what people in treatment go through as they attempt to recover.

A very well-written chapter on the way to.healing. To tackle the unknown is part determination to hold a promise of a decision made and a part is someone who support you in your decision.
