This is a very cute short story and I like the baby's name - Poppy. You used very good words and lovely art work with the cute picture of the adorable baby. love, teri

Wow, Maria, a new mother too exhausted to name her own baby. This is a tightly written 100 word chapter about the mother's disconnection from Poppy and her father's growing connection with the child. This is a key scene in this emotionally intense chapter:

John tried to ignore the jibe and smiled good-naturedly. He wanted a peaceful life and he had learned the hard way that he must keep his opinions to himself.

One can't help but to feel sorry for the child and empathize with the mother who is unable to bond with her.

This is a compelling, blog like novel in small bites that satisfy.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi, Maria;
Now, what is the matter with the name, 'Pat?' OR, is there some history about that name that we just aren't privy to yet? A deep, love for an old girlfriend? Or is it his mother's name?

Looking forward to more,

~patty~

Barb seems to be pretty tired and lethargic even. She doesn't appear to have many feelings for her newborn girl either. I wonder what will happen next. I really like the story, Maria Jose. All the best. Ulla:)))

She has no feelings at all, I would say...
    Thanks for reading.

It sound so frustrating for John, Maria. I could probably think quite easy on a word that totally describes Barb, that also begins with a 'b'. She didn't want a boy, she doesn't like flowery names. I am glad the baby finally has a name. Well done, thanks for sharing.

I think the b-word is perfect for her. Thanks for reading.

I think Poppy is an adorable name. I would expect her to like it as well, since it will be unique in every classroom. My daughter had to wonder if she was being called when the teacher said "Katy/ie" since there were so many of them in her class. :)

Katie is pretty too, but my daughter is very happy with her name (she's called Iris) because there are very few people with the same name, especially here in Spain.
    Thanks for reading.

No, this is just a picture I found online.
And the story is pure fiction.
    Thanks for reading, Cookie.

A very well-written hundred word chapter about the new-born baby-girl who is now called Poppy by her father and no objection from her mother. She seems to detach her from her baby.

I can remember spending hours over a period of months going through names with my wife before the birth of our first child. We chose Sera. Sad that he basically didn't have an opinion or preference, those fractures visible again : )

    Sera is a lovely name...
Yes, it's quite sad. But it was Barb who didn't have a preference, not John.
    Thanks for your review.

I like that name.

He needs to take Poppy and run like the wind away from this crazy woman, or else their lives will be full of misery. I suspect that's coming in the story.
