Outstanding, Rod. The thing that makes thism writing work so well is your use of striking imagery and use of strong verbs. Like here:
"He scuffed along the flagstone path
while gripping tight his hardwood cane."
And here: "Our route, smooth-edged with boxwood hedge,
led to hydrangea, many hues:
hibiscus trees in porcelain pots
on patio near sculpted yews."

A city boy, born and bred, I know little about gardening, but I appreciate an excellent poem about it when I read one. You obviously have a great deal of expertise on the subject, and your refection on this one is impressive.
