These types of tragic events makes a person wonder about the meaning of it all. Something so benign as photographing nature takes a bad turn. Your friend's desire to keep you from hearing of the event was a remarkable feat. I'm sorry for your loss. I wonder if we ever get over these things. There is just one thing I suggest changing and that is "in tact" to "intact." Marilyn

The truth is when we step one foot onto the ground in the morning all bets are off. So live each day as if our last. Thanks for the intact correction. did it. yours, dian

This is so beautiful and moving, I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with what you say about parents dying after their children. It's a scary thought.
Thanks for sharing.

It is time you adopt the conventional spelling of the word that so haunts you. Bring that day into this modern world perspective. You have known too much pain, give it a rest - FriYAY!

Was trying to add some humor against a difficult memory. Hit save by mistake. As I write a lot never sent, this probably would have been erased. As writers do, you have written about a few life changing things of late. Seems you have more than your fair share. But I may have said earlier, it takes a lot of pounding to make a samurai sword. The character resonates most with me is the artful dodger.

Thank you for your courage to retell this tragic story. I hope that creating the poem has healing effects. The free verse with bits of rhyme is an effective vehicle. Warm regards- Joan

Thanks so much Joan... I was once told by a poet of your stature... "in order to write, slash your lets and let them bleed onto the page." That is dramatic granted. But, I always hear that in my head. yours, diana
