Your poem is delightful.. you took me for a grand tour of what your world looks like from the back of the handlebars on 'Tangerine' (love the name!!). I can hear and feel your ease with this homey, at-ease, casual mode of transportation and how it is up-close-and-personal.. which allows you to stop easily and wave to others on the street, or to stop for a quick chat with a vendor, or to pick up flowers for your wife.. I used to have a motorcycle, so I know the freedom and splendor one can feel from it's companionship and ride.. thanks for this enjoyable 'ride' and trip down memory lane! You can park almost anywhere, it is so cheap, and it is an opportunity to smell some fresh air and feel the wind against my cheek.. bikes, horses and hot air balloons, are modes of transportation that truly are joyful..

Someone who owned a motor scooter would indeed be able to relate to the Speaker in this poem. I am delighted I could take you down memory lane. Many thanks for sharing.

I like this poem! And thanks for the picture. I noticed that your scooter has three wheels. Since my balance is not that good, a scooter looks like a good substitute for a bicycle. I'll look into it. As for the color, it's perfect! I had a friend once who called her sports car Old Yeller. Creative, those colors. The love for your scooter shows up in every stanza as you describe your best friend and the adventures you have with her/him. Sounds like a special way to retire - write and scoot. Thanks for sharing. Marge

Indeed I do have wonderful adventures on my scooter, Marge, but it only has TWO wheels like a bike. But don?t be dismayed. It is easier to keep one?s balance because the motor does all the work; you are not pedaling. Many thanks for the high praise and that six-star bonus. Rod

A very well-written ode about the tangerine scooter who had to wait out the winter before he could get attention from his owner. Now that spring arrived the two of them will not be separated the whole summer long.

I took a Ferry from RhodecIsland out to blockisland. My husba n d and I rented mopeds for the day and just toured off the beat e n track to ocean cliffs, little inlets, a local shop or two...or three.
Th ferry as nd isl a nd and ocean was great....but I still long to have my very own scooter to putt putt around town.

Hubby says it's not practical in New England ... I say I have a n honorary PhD in nagging.

Place your bets!

Hi, Karenina. Many thanks for sharing my ode. As you and your husband discovered, riding mopeds ?off the beaten track? is a lot of fun. If your town is not too congested, they are very practical for doing errands. I live outside Chicago, so I can only ride mine from late April to November. I hope you can win your bet. Rod

I'm renewing my springtime annual quest (nag) and hope this year to arm myself with the truth that July1st he begins retirement and as we have one car...wouldn't it be nice for me to be able to take off on local errands and joy rides and not deprive him of the car?! (wish me luck!)

If it helps your case, my wife and I are also retired and share one car and I use the scooter when she needs it. Rod

This is such fun. Good luck in the contest with this wonderful entry. I DO like Tangerine, perfect name for her. Song to go along with that, I believe. Nicely worded and rhymed. Marilyn
