Masterfully done, Andre! This reads more like a haibun with the first part telling us what happened and the last three lines speaks and even challenges us to be like Shaw - clothed in courage at the right time to do right. Viritual six!!

Oh, thank you, Helen, for your review. Shaw taught us a lot about finding courage at the right time.

Hi Sis, good to see you again. Your opening line says so much, a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun. I've always wondered about that because how many people actually think they're bad guys?

Excellent political commentary of another horrific murder in America. These AR-15 are really making a name for themselves and not in a good way.

Excellent work so keep them coming.

Gloria

Thank you, Gloria, for your review. I am usually not brave when it comes to making political commentary, but I had to say something. I could not keep quiet. Thanks.

So much to say! Your double entendre. . . "where to be without a gun is to be naked," sad but true.
How much do I want to embrace and thank this angel on earth! I thank you for writing about James Shaw, Jr and don't doubt for one moment he's telling us the truth as to his motive. That made no difference to me at all as to how I feel about him. In my book, he's a Hero!. Fully Clothed! Without a gun. Flawless. yours, diana
This deserves a six and I ran out yesterday.

Yes, Diana, he does not think he is a hero, but he is to me and even more a hero after he raised $175,000 for the four victims. Thank you for your virtual six star review.

I didn't hear or read about that. God be with him...

Andre, I am embarrassed that I cannot give you a well-deserved six stars for this one. The last stanza alone is pure gold, my friend.

"Within each of us lies the potential for heroism,
to clothe ourselves with a garment of courage
we never knew our closet possessed."

Bravo! Good job! Bob

Oh, thank you, Bob, I will take your virtual six star review. I could have waited until reviewers got their new allotment, but I needed to get this poem off of my chest so I can move on to the next one. I have ten days to go on my vacation. Thanks.

Oh, I meant to tell you. How I envy you being down there, buddy. Damn! I love Mexico. In 1987 I visited Acapulco and swore i would never go home. LOL...A decent income and a man can live like a king down there. Bob

You have described the encounter very well in this poem, using direct quotes and making repeated references to "nakedness." I especially like your last stanza which states your message clearly. Rod

Oh, thank you, Rod, for your review. That mass shooting and its end were so surreal, I had to say something. Thanks.

I couldn't live in a place where the gun is a must have clothing accessory. I'd hate to live that way. James Shaw was a real man, a hero, even though he said he wasn't, he didn't need a gun to prove it or to protect himself from them. Well done to him, and well done to you for writing about him. It was very well written and described. Sandra xx

Yes, Sandra, I am amazed at Shaw's split second action. He says he is not super hero and each of us has the potential to do the same when tragedy strikes. Thank you for your review.

This is a very interesting story in a poem. It just goes to show that we don't know how we would react in cedtain situations when our adrenelin is raised, we probably would not think of the consequences. Nice one. Jen

Yes, Jen, Shaw hopes his experience encourages others to take action. He did it for purely selfish reasons--to live and see his daughter again. Burning his hand, Shaw fought Reinking for two minutes to take the gun from him. Yes, like you I wonder how I would react in certain situations. Thank you for your review.

Wow, Andre, this is an amazing poem about what took place just recently. What a heroic act of stopping a lunatic, and actually succeeding. On top of everything he was unarmed. That does take courage. Sadly the shooter had already killed four. It's good to see you back and with a wonderful poem. All the best. Ulla:)))

Oh, thank you, Ulla, for giving my poem its first review. It's good to be back. I'm proud of Shaw for not only stopping the mass shooting but for raising $175,000 for the four victims. Thanks again.
