Your post os OK (Boy this is long)
However, I am one of those gun toting assholes who owns not one but two AR-15's. I have never killed anyone since Vietnam. I wear a weapon on my side and with or without it, I would have done exactly as did Mr Shaw. He got a cut on his forearm, but saved more lives. An asshole in a car, a whimp with a bat, a moron with a knife all have the same opportunity to cause harm. When people advocate for the abolishment of the weapon, I look at England where the Bobbies have no guns and are being chased by the new clan who ARE armed. If you had a choice to shoot to save your life or that of your family or friends, what would you do?

Bear, I would shoot to save my life or that of my family or friends. There are moron going around knifing people to death or running them over in rental trucks. The issue is complex and defies simple solutions. Thank you for your review and heartfelt observations.

Within each of us lies the potential for heroism,
to clothe ourselves with a garment of courage
we never knew our closet possessed.
I absolutely love this. A raw, naked and stark poem and well worthy of a six, well done. Kindest regards Meia x

I absolutely loved the creative thinking that reiterated this story to us in a unique and creative way. He indeed, is a hero of gigantic proportions. Totally selfless. The use of the cartoon enhanced it. thanks for sharing.

Your post is among the most eloquent written on this subject so far. I find it telling that the last few mass shootings have all or mostly been don with the AR15 rifle. And yet the NRA (Noted Racist Assholes) still see no problem with this rifle. True the shooter have been mostly mentally troubled people, they were smart enough to figure out that they could kill the most people with obviously easy to obtain AR15. Abolish this weapon today! Lives depend on it.

Yes, nomi338, abolish this weapon today. This gun makes no sense in a civilian setting. Thank you for your generous six star review and heartfelt comments on this troubling issue. I love your joke about the NRA acronym, too. Thanks.

James Shaw Jr. is a true hero. I know I would have been scared and froze. I enjoyed reading your poem. You did a wonderful writing this poem. Thank you for sharing.

Barbara, I'm so glad Shaw did not freeze. I don't know what I would have done. Shaw reached the conclusion that since he was going to die any way, he would make Reinikng "work" to try toYes, kill him. Burning his hand and arm, Shaw struggled for two minutes to tear the gun away from him. Shaw is a true hero, and I'm glad my poem paid tribute to him. Thank you for your reivew.

Nice tribute to this hero. It might be that he was just trying to save himself, but his actions saved many more. I like the ending terset that gives each of us hope that we can find this kind of courage in ourselves.

Keep writing

Yes, Joan, by saving his own skin he saved others who were still in the Waffle House. He says we all have the potential to do what he did and find the courage inside of us. Thank you for your review.

As always, an accomplished work, Andre. Unfortunately, there are many miles to go before the country decides to stifle the NRA, and the bloodshed it encourages.

I think old age must be taking its toll, because, try as I did, I could find no sexual content in your poem.

Thank you, Don, for your review. Yes, the sexual content warning may have been a bit of an overkill, but so is going around naked shooting people. Yes, our country has miles to go to stiffle this bloodshed. Thanks again.

Sis Cat, to me this defies being reviewed. Living over here, this is the sort of news I hardly get from German Media - unless I happen to tap into CNN at the correct time.

This is indeed the story of courage. But much more than that, it disproves the American belief that guns must be met with guns. If Shaw had pulled out a gun to shoot back, who knoes how many shots would have been fired, and at how many people in the Waffle House?

My fav lines:

Within each of us lies the potential for heroism,
to clothe ourselves with a garment of courage
we never knew our closet possessed.

Yes, apky, Shaw's actions disproves the American notion that guns must be met with guns.He fought with his bare hands and wouldn't release the gun because he knew Reinking would shoot him.

Yes, many people call the closing lines their favorite. Thank you for your review.

SisCat! SIX STARS 6****** I love the way you emphasized the way this man risked his life snatching this hot AK-15 out of this man's hand. This hero was a Black man. Indeed, the gun must have been hot the reason he threw it behind the counter. I tell you, going out to eat can be dangerous these days. WELL WRITTEN. liberty justice

Oh, thank you, Liberty Justice, for your virtual six star review. I was stunned to discover the hero was a black man who burned his arm and hand grabbing the still hot gun. Given that I am African American, too, his action made me think what would I have done in that situation. Thanks again for your praise of my writing.

What was interesting, SisCat, is that the Black male hero at Waffle House admitted that he didn't do it to save anybody else, but he grabbed the AK-15 to save his own behind. lolol liberty justice

Wow, it is amazing. He also said he wanted to see his daughter again. What other motivation does a person need?
