Oh, Kerry, thank you for reviewing it. The incident was so strange it bugged me. I kept telling people about it. Finally I wrote this poem. Thanks.

Hello Andre,
An excellent poem about real life,
not movie, television or political banter.
The key phrase, "I just wanted to save my life."
Something that would motivate many people.
It sounds so simple, but, of course, it is not.
Heroism comes in all shapes and sizes
I like your last three lines, the potential, it lies within
Well done
and interesting art work.

Yes, RS, it sounds simple and selfish but wanting to save ones life is all the motivation one would need to stop many of these attacks. Yes, the potential for heroism lies within each of us.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you found Jones' cartoon interesting, too.

You've chosen a very interesting topic, Andre and one that is currently of great importance in the USA.
The choice of words, the picture and the notes are all great.
Very well written. Thanks.

Hello Sis Cat, this is an excellent work. I thoroughly enjoyed the story within, and you start it with words I've never heard before but found quite disturbing.
"It takes a good guy with a gun
to stop a bad guy with a gun,"

I guess not being American, I'm not used to bad people with guns, let alone, good ones, LOL

I think the sentiment is very nice, the aftertaste of the poem, we do all have the potential for heroism (greatness).

I noticed no errors and found this poem a pleasure to read and review, Ana.

Oh, thank you, Ana, for your review. Yes, we each have the potential for heroism. Shaw stressed that he is a regular guy and that regular guys and gals like him could do the same thing. Thanks again.

Yet another terrible tragedy set about by a maniac with an automatic rifle, Andre.
Will it never end?
I own several guns, none of them assault rifles.
Why on earth would I, or anyone else, need an assault rifle?
God bless that brave hero who undoubtedly saved countless lives that day due to his selfless acts of heroism.
We could use a lot more like James Dawson Jr. in the world today.

Yes, Dean, we all could use more James Shaw Jrs, but he stressed not to look outside for such saviors, but within. Since then, Shaw has raised $175,000 for the victims, visited the survivors in hospitals, and spoke before the Tennessee legislature.

Thank you for your review. It's great hearing from you again.

OK, OK, you got the sixth star because I think telling that particular story is so important. I don't usually rate on content, but I wanted to this time. Good for you!

Thank you, Katya, for rating my poem six stars on content. I was just watching the funeral service of one of the victims. I'm glad you are moved that I told this particular story.

HELLO SIS CAT: Sometimes it takes a young boy with a sling-shot to stop a giant with an over-sized sword and an nasty attitude. The boy may appear to be unarmed and unprotected, but he has protection that one cannot see unless we understand just, "WHO," his helper is. I've imagined that James Shaw Jr. had the same helper as did David. After David felled Goliath I've imagine that David said: The sword was big, and he was naked-headed. But none of that mattered. I was just trying to get the sword away from him. I needed something to rid him of that evil head of his. Thank you for sharing this story with us, SIS CAT.
It has profound meaning and an urgent need to be told. rhonnie69.

Yes, rhonnie69, Shaw had something . . . no, Someone bigger than Reinking's AR-15. You are correct. Shaw had the same helper as David. I reread what David said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17: 47 "the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands." Burning himself, Shaw used his bare hands to stop a mass shooter armed with the most feared weapon in America. As Shaw said, "The gun was hot and he was naked, but none of that mattered." There are Davids and Shaws inside each one of us. Through faith and vigilance, we can stop giants and reveal the naked fools they are.

Thank you for your generous review.

It is amazing how the pen and mind of a poet can take laughter and inject it into any situation, this definitely is not taken lightly in my reviewing but it presents a story with serious fact and exceptional writing.

Yes, Ronnie, others have noted how I introduced laughter into my account of such a horrible event, but I saw the humor and the deeper implications in it. Thank you for your review.

A graphic retelling of this heroic event, drawing inspiration from the CNN article. I suspect your account of the action is the more gripping version!
The six stars are mainly for the way you have turned the story to good effect with your aphorism in the closing lines:
"Within each of us lies the potential for heroism,
to clothe ourselves with a garment of courage
we never knew our closet possessed."
A fine thought and true.

Yes, Tony, many reviewers have said my closing lines made the poem. It is not enough to report the news and let Shaw speak his own words. I have to draw some wider lesson from this incident. Thank you for your generous, six star review of my gripping poem.
