Yes, RS, it sounds simple and selfish but wanting to save ones life is all the motivation one would need to stop many of these attacks. Yes, the potential for heroism lies within each of us.

I guess not being American, I'm not used to bad people with guns, let alone, good ones, LOL
I think the sentiment is very nice, the aftertaste of the poem, we do all have the potential for heroism (greatness).

Yet another terrible tragedy set about by a maniac with an automatic rifle, Andre.
Will it never end?
I own several guns, none of them assault rifles.
Why on earth would I, or anyone else, need an assault rifle?
God bless that brave hero who undoubtedly saved countless lives that day due to his selfless acts of heroism.
We could use a lot more like James Dawson Jr. in the world today.

Yes, Dean, we all could use more James Shaw Jrs, but he stressed not to look outside for such saviors, but within. Since then, Shaw has raised $175,000 for the victims, visited the survivors in hospitals, and spoke before the Tennessee legislature.

Yes, rhonnie69, Shaw had something . . . no, Someone bigger than Reinking's AR-15. You are correct. Shaw had the same helper as David. I reread what David said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17: 47 "the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands." Burning himself, Shaw used his bare hands to stop a mass shooter armed with the most feared weapon in America. As Shaw said, "The gun was hot and he was naked, but none of that mattered." There are Davids and Shaws inside each one of us. Through faith and vigilance, we can stop giants and reveal the naked fools they are.

Yes, Tony, many reviewers have said my closing lines made the poem. It is not enough to report the news and let Shaw speak his own words. I have to draw some wider lesson from this incident. Thank you for your generous, six star review of my gripping poem.
