mermaids,
Can you imagine? I have to think that family returned and was OVERJOYED to find that their pets and livestock were safe. What a heroic story - it well deserves to be told again and again! Thanks!

This is a nice poem, I like it's metaphorical nature and the deeper meanings that seem to be there. It also flows well and has a nice feel to it. Thanks for sharing this and have a great day

A poem with a spiritual theme and backdrop for our times and our troubled word - some very effective language & imagery 'whiskers/are singed /but his flock is safe'

So Odin was no "hired hand " then was he? What a good brave creature to insist on staying behind to keep his herd of goats
safe from harm. I wonder where the deer came from. They probably picked up on Odin's all encompassing desire to keep his goats safe that they decided to follow on. A lovely story of how magnificent an animal can be in a crisis. God bless him
cheers Cass

Your descriptive poem tells a very moving story. Knowing it's based on fact makes it even more effective. The change of attitude from being unappreciative of the job to loyal is well conveyed,

I enjoyed meeting Odin. I am glad he did his job and is safe.
I understand you are trying to make connections between the your job and Odin's. I am not sure the connection is made.
However, once go introduce Odin in the third stanza, the poem takes off.
I did enjoy how your wording showed Odin fulfilling his job.

What a great story about Odin! I bet this put lots of hired hands to shame, for him to stay loyal and committed to his charges. Great inspiration. I liked the phrase "his whiskers are singed but his flock is safe." Good job with the poem. Good luck with the contest.

This is an awesome story! Isn't it amazing how nature works? I feel you did a good job telling the story, and I loved your graphic! Well done, my friend!

Mermaids, You know, you don't hear these stories anywhere but here. I was sure Odin was gone as soon as I read that he stayed to protect the goats, but then he was okay! I was totally floored. Odin brought his goats straight through the fires of Hell, along with some deer. Amazing. Great job. Susan
