Hi there, Pam
I really like this. Tying nature in to our own plight when done effectively like this is a powerful poetic tool. A cocoon and a praying mantis couldn't evoke better instant images in your readers mind. Bravo. I read somewhere you were stuck at 14. I'm terrible at responding to reviews and returning reviews because I work full time. Hope this helps. :)) mike

Thank you, Mike. I only told that to my little friend, Gloria... about Cocoon being stuck on 14 reviews. I never expected for her and you to combine for a 15th review. What a nice surprise on this new morning. Thank you for your lovely review and five star rating

Thank you, meeshu for your thoughtful review and five star rating. Praying mantis is harmless to humans

who says I'm human.

I saw a red back spider kill a large praying mantis. Normally, the mantis would kill the spider. And in that part of the world people used them to kill the spiders. But this mantis was stupid or not hungry and allowed the spider time to put a stick web down. The mantis could not free its leg so the spider delivered venom through that leg. I thought the mantis would win and so did the narrator. A smarter mantis who attacked right away would have lived and killed the spider

the answer is I.Q. testing for mantises. or mantisi.

Mantises is plural. In my poem it is singular. I considered using the plural. But, it only takes one

A very well-written 5-7-5 when the butterfly frees herself from the cocoon she is already in danger of predators looking for prey. When she is able to complete her life cycle it is a lucky life.

Pam there is always this thing that haunts us from within just before we're getting ready for change and before we go to the next level of our lives and that the fear of the unknown. The metamorphosis of the butterfly in the cacoon is a great illustration that symbolize the moments before the change this is when fear tries to creep in

Thank you, Mary for your insightful review. Ever wonder why the praying mantis does not just wait outside cocoons? They do not plan that far ahead. Thank you for the five star rating
-
Pam what is a praying or is it preying mantis. Antwat is that
-
You should google it. It is like the spider. It preys on other insects. It has no venom. It eats them alive.
-
Love your pieces.
Comment from Gloria ....
I really like your fiveseventyfive Pam. I must admit to not liking to stray out of the comfort zone very much anymore myself, specially if there's a Praying Mantis out there. This is actually quite genius, and especially that the fate is already determined.
Best of luck to you in the contest with this gem. :)

Have you ever wondered why the praying mantis does not just check every day and est the butterfly when it comes out? Maybe they can not plan ahead

wow how dramatic and such a thought process to think that it has on just begin and then before it even gets out into the world it is preyed upon

Comment from Lloyd T. Okoko
The work reminisces a perceived hesitation of the protagonist in venturing far from his or her own sphere of comfort and excellence for fear of being consumed by the unknown.
The work earns its texture through the use of metaphor and hyperbole.
Excellent work! Keep the flag flying!
