Beautiful. Very clear images, with so much detail in so few words. Also I particularly love the last line "in drunken flight, as is my heart, set free".

You paint a lovely picture of this poor bedraggled bee with your words. Thank you for helping this poor creature. We all know of the plight these very important part of nature are undergoing, and I appreciate your saving this one!
The close up photo of a bee you chose is a perfect match for your work. Good job both in your poem and your little part in helping this bee!
I can see why it has achieved the All Time Best and Recognized status.

Hi Tony, I really enjoyed this cute meditation of the fragility of life and its cycles. I thought you did a fantastic job of demonstrating how empathy can make the world a more beautiful and productive place. You drove this message home without sounding preachy--which is no small feat. Lovely sonnet.

How good a poem was that? I could see the bee getting the water off. I can tell that you are a careful watcher of nature. I like it, too, especially spiders. They get a bad rap, but they are very industrious, spider thread has incredible properties, so strong and elastic for such a fine thing.
Beautiful imager well placed, and I especially warmed to this stanza:
'...Her jointed legs brush moisture from her head,
meticulous, and with exacting care.
She tries her wings; a sudden vibrant spread
of gossamer beats hard upon the air ...'
Thanks for your poem, nice offering today on FS, Ana.

Very many thanks for your six star award, Ana. Yes, I agree about spiders - they are fascinating creatures. I find it difficult to understand the irrational arachnophobia of so many people - even though we do have one or two in our part of the world who are capable of inflicting a pretty nasty bite if they feel threatened. Not unlike humans in that respect! LOL
Thank you for your kind comments about my poem and for picking out the part that you liked the best. It was a warm evening and I enjoyed leaning against a fence post and watching this little bee's efforts leading to her gradual recovery.

Oh that is more than just good!
That is the real stuff. Great use of rhyme, meter, and general sound. And such vivid images! And such a great story! Thank you thank you!

This is a wonderful poem! I never really liked bees, but I see their usefulness. This poem captures the beauty of the bee, and what it goes through. I think it's great how you saved the little thing. Good job.

Many thanks for your review, Cheryl. I know that some people are a bit apprehensive about bees, and with good cause if they are allergic to their sting. Fortunately, I'm not. We have several hives of bees on our property and the garden is always filled with them. Peaceable little creatures if you are gentle with them! Best wishes, Tony

Interesting take on the sonnet form, the pastoral romantic style. It is reminiscent of Heaney, and his poems about nature that reveal this underlying instinctive, scientific force in it. We see the bee here in a very contemporary setting, almost like under a microscope, grooming itself, struggling to get free and go on with its life. Interesting that you, the human, give it a helping hand. It is a very symbolist kind of poem, speaking of the relationship between people and nature. Food for thought. estory
