I think this is a very clever and quite a profound 5-7-5 poem.
You have really told a story in such few words and chosen a good illustration. Good luck in the competition. Best wishes Jen.

I thought at first this was taking a spiritual direction...then came the gun and took it in anther direction...well, that is the beauty of poetry.
My best wishes.

This is a chilling poem in the wake of all the gun violence. It conjured up children horrified and scarred. I don't know what your intent, I only know what it evoked in my mind. Quite a piece. So few words, so much story. Thank you, Dorinda

Splendid to see one of Tom's wonderful photographs put to such fine use! If only Edgar Allan Poe had possessed a serviceable 12-bore, all of his problems would have been over - but we would have been deprived of two fine poems, his and this humorous encapsulation of it.

OMG... did I not credit Tom... I've been away for seven years and am trying to get back into the habit of thanking the artists for their artwork/photography.. This couldn't have been a more serendipitous image for me, my name is johnson and lo and behold 2 raven/blackbirds. Thanks so much for letting me know. yours, diana

Hi :)
Your entry meets the criteria for the writing prompt.
- 5-7-5 syllable count
- about a bird / birds
I enjoy your humour and the presentation also.
The suggestion I would make is to perhaps remove the references to your name from the sub heading and author notes (unless you are not known by your name on here) as posts for this contest should be anonymous..
Good luck in the contest.
Regards, Debra :)

Sounds like this is a thoughtful person who died violently and unexpectedly.
This shows the harbingers of death and the gravestone. Makes me think of Poe

Hope this did well in the contest.

Keep writing

I love the picture and the poem is Great! Crows and Ravens are graveyard birds and the horror movie birds too. They can be very pesky and pests. Good Luck and Best Wishes in the Contest ! Sherman541

Thanks so much Sherman...I felt very Poeish yesterday.

You are welcome - I don't know that I have ever felt Poeish, but I remember Vincent Price and all the parts he played in the movies. I also drew a Caricature of him once for my art class. Perhaps I was Poeish that day :) smiles and winks as I wave.

This is a good entry. For the contest. Kind of violent, though. In the spirit of the contest. Bye, bye blackbirds. Includes ravens since they are also black birds. Good luck in the contest. Thank you for sharing.

This is a very short, and somber piece. It is a very well written piece. The structure, format, and, flow. The picture also goes well with the piece.
