I think this is a good entry for the Rhyming Poetry writing prompt.
Your lovely verse is a wonderful tribute to Omar Kayyam.
Good luck to you with this one in the competition.

Thank you for this poetic introduction to this great man, Omar Khayyam, a scientist, a scholar and poet. I admired your rhyming, meter and cadence, a very well woven ode to a great man. Your author notes were very helpful. Thank you for sharing this excellent composition.

Don't know much about the tentmaker, but rather enjoyed Fitzgerald's attempts to make sense of him. Even Paladin quoted Omar(Fitzgerald). Excellent post.

I really enjoyed the play on words of "I think; therefore I am." So, your last stanza was a great one. I'll raise my glass and with a toast, I will celebrate YOU. Thank you for sharing your writing.

A very well-written poem and ode to Omar Khayyam. Many people say that the real poet comes out after a few glasses of wine. I will not know if itvis true because I never tried this theory.

GREAT PUN and closing twist. This got a chuckle out of me, but the sixer is more for the phenomenal rhyming and fine timing. This is one of the better entries in the rhyming contest. Good luck!

Even though it has reverse syntax in a line, which I am not a fan of, I want to give this a six for the rhymes and the humor too.

NOTES

Nishapur and endure--creative rhymes!

REVERSE SYNTAX WORKS OKAY HERE, BUT I SUGGEST USING COMMAS:

Astronomer(,) was he(,) of quite some note,

CLEVER LINE:
the proof lies in a calendar he wrote.

LOVE THIS RHYME PAIR:
For Omar was a proper vinipote-

to prove it, one need only heed this quote:

LOVE THE RHYME PAIR HERE TOO:
Thus says this truly wonderful Bacchant;

one luminary Persian bon vivant.

STANDING OVATION FOR THE CLOSING STANZA (AND RHYMES):

I raise my glass to celebrate his art,

in deference to old Rene Descartes;

and toast him with my very last iamb,

in playful jest- "I drink, therefore Khayyam".

witty closing AHA! Hee hee.

My only suggestion is the punctuation in the last stanza could be better (and the period should be inside the quote marks too). Example edit:

I raise my glass to celebrate his art

(in deference to old Rene Descartes)

and toast him with my very last iamb,

in playful jest: "I drink, therefore Khayyam."

Chuckling,
rd

Thank you Craig for sharing this poem. I did not know all these facts about him. You did a great job with the rhyme & smooth flow of lines. I love the last 2 lines. Your author notes are very informative. Thanks again. Jan

Super job on this. Love the beautiful artwork and your well-written lines which flow perfectly. The poem is amusing, too, as well as educational to readers with your author's notes. There may be a small typo here: "we learn we (he?) had a healthy love of wine. Marilyn
