I am a fisher-woman from way back. Your descriptive words hit the right notes with me. A Reverie and fiction too? I wondered about how the sword took him away? This sounds medieval? Anyway, I loved it - so there! :-) XX

The words provide a strong image of a fish leaping out of the pond in the picture to let the hunting heron see and catch it. I like the metaphors used in this of the beak being a lance and how the death in nature coincides with the death of a loved one.

Keep writing

Joan

This poem is so eloquent, applying all the magic, included spot-on rhyming, of great poetry. It seems, Tony, you get better and better with age, like the best of wines. This piece shines for me! I feel honored to read it for free!

This is quite melancholy. a tale of loss told in beautifully described phrasing. Very descriptive and smooth. Full of emotion-the most important element for a poem by my account.

A very well-written poem. Memories of the past cone to us at the most unexpected moments. While we enjoy a beautiful day in nature, something trigger the mind about a day in the past when our loved one was still with us.

This is so beautiful Tony and I read and reread it several times. Capturing a moment in your first stanza is so well done and pure poetry. I forgot to observe the rhyme - it could have been in free verse, it would have been just as lovely. It is what you wrote, not how you did it. But, of course, it did rhyme and the iambic pentameter is spot on. The first stanza I just loved. You used some lovely metaphor - 'stirs up the muddied depths of memory.' I found the whole poem very moving. Once in a while I read a poem and think 'I wish I had written that' - I feel that way about this one of yours. Regards Dorothy

High praise indeed! To say that this is a poem that you wish you had written, coming from such a fine poet as yourself, is a most generous and affirming thing to say. Thank you, Dorothy, both for your comments and for the six stars. Extremely generous. Best wishes, Tony

I really love the photograph, Tony. Some beautiful images too, the mayfly moments I can relate very well too, and splash of fish.

Oh, and what an ending to such a serene scene. It reminds me of life. lol

Very nicely written and my pleasure to review.

Thanks, Gloria. Glad you enjoyed this one. I was paying particular attention to the euphony of vowel sounds in an attempt to mirror the tranquility of the pond. All the best, Tony

To share in something simple like this is such a joy and reminds me that these interactions and occurances are happening all around us all the time.

If I could just spend my days observing these things and writing about them all, well I think I would be in my perfect Eutopia.
Okay, maybe some additional things...a nice picnic rug, a pillow, a couple of cats, some chocolate and cheese haha.

Simple observations become more, oh so much more when astutely recorded by the talents of the nature watcher whose ability with the pen (and qwerty) defy gravity...somewhat like those ballerina legs tete a tetting in concentric circles that lap the pond shore.

I liked the ballet line and the skimming dancer in poetic mid iambic step.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo good you are.

Sixer for you, my clever Aussie mate.

Cheers P

How kind of you, P., to comment on the gravity defying properties of my qwerty on this occasion! I appreciate your sending it to soar among a sextet of stars. Your suggested list of what is needed to make the occasion more enjoyable echo my sentiments almost entirely, (a nice picnic rug, a pillow, a couple of cats, some chocolate and cheese). However, I would perhaps exchange the two cats for a bottle of fine wine and a can of insect spray. The cats could be employed to hunt for snakes in the grass.

This was a very nice poem. Well thought out with strong visual imagery. Creative. Good alliterations sprinkled. Good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Nice work.
