This is a very well-written poem! It has a nice flow to each line, and I think you incorporated the required words really well into this poem. It tells a delightful story about a woman who, even in her condition, strived to see the beautiful garden lilacs. This story paints a clear picture in my mind, and it's overall very nicely done.
Great work :)

    Hello Friend,
So pleased you enjoyed! My mother surely loved to garden, and her lilacs were stunning. She is never more than a thought away...
Thank you for your thoughtful and positive review!

What a lovely poem which offers so much hope to others who
also have their own 'they'.
Spring is the season of rebirth so it's understandable that all things
seem possible.
I really like the way the poem has been composed and formatted
and ends with a promise to self to do it all again another day.
:-) Shirley

    Hello Shirley!
I just hope when I get to be my mother's age, "They" are nowhere to be found!
But I do hope I retain her fighting spirit!
Thank you ever so much for your positive and complimentary review! So appreciated!

This is beautiful. I enjoyed this story and also your comments. Thank you for this. We think because someone's health and capabilities are failing that they don't have these desires to live anymore and enjoy what they once enjoyed. Sometimes (many times) we overprotect and believe we're doing what's best for someone. I wasn't sure how this poem was going to end. It kept me reading. Well-written, flows well. Excellent!

    Hello Catherine,
Thank you ever so much for your thoughtful and complimentary review. My mother fought so hard to live, but in the end, she hurt too much...But her spirit truly lives on in the love and beauty she shared with so many...
    Thank you again!

One Hundred Steps is a poem of strength of will and determination. This elderly woman is determined to enjoy her garden's gifts despite her growing infirmity. A beautiful tribute to those who age but never grow old. :) Nancy

I found this write to be an enchanting read, a story of struggle, a heart willingness to achieve. I, suffered such as a child, having myself to confront those steps. I won. Hope they continue their victories.

An excellent photo that complements your poem perfectly, sorry I have no six left. Your memories bubbled up with these words, about your mother who suffered from arthritis, Parkinson's disease and eventually dementia. You wrote this lovely poem about her using the assigned words for a prompt. A very good entry for the prompt. I will try and look out for you.

When I saw the flowers, the layout , I said, I am sure I will be in for a good read...and I was. I am not sure how to categorise it, a poem, free verse or prose...perhaps story poem as more an account, but beautiful it was, the perfect imagery bringing a smile at the end, as I was hoping, all the way through, there would be no mishap with a twist.
Good luck in the competition.
My best wishes.
RGstar.

    Hello Friend,
I think I was channeling the style and spirit of Walt Whitman ...or a vain attempt. To be truthful, with the words given me, this is how my memory found itself come alive on the page. I would characterize my offering as a story poem, too. A story of a very courageous woman who refused to be defeated - for as long as she was able - by old age and disease...Thank you for your complimentary and positive review...
