We agree. But shouldn't we do more to try to keep guns out of untrustworthy hands? Should ten-year-olds be given driver's licenses? I don't think so.
I don't want to deny anyone a gun--as long as they aren't a threat.

The problem isn't guns. It's our freewheeling system for vetting gun ownership.

Stronger gun vetting won't eliminate the problem. But, combined with other measures, it's a step in the right direction.

Just out of curiosity, do you own an assault weapon? No judgment, just a question.

Peace, Lee

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I really enjoyed and appreciated your comments. I have no problem answering your question. I do not have an assault weapon but I do have a shotgun, a hand gun that can be fired as rapidly as an assault weapon, pepper spray and a vicious service dog if she needs to protect me. I have not needed to use any of them but I have been intensely trained to do so and if I felt my life or the life of anyone was threatened I would indeed step forward and fire. I strongly believe guns are meant for hunting and defensive measures if needed, not random devastation.

We are in agreement. I fully support your right to defend yourself, and those around you.

Here's the question: Would you be threatened, or heartened, by legislation aimed at making the ownership of assault weapons more structured?

Personally, I would not; but the question would be could they do so in a just way?

You ask the key question. What's just?
Who are we trying to protect? The NRA thinks we need guns. Okay. Within reason. To me, assault weapons are unreasonable. Just my take. L

May I just offer an observation that will become a question. There are young men and women who sign into the services at 18, they are given the equipment and trained to use it properly, now when they return a couple of years later which means they are still under 21, back in the USA they would not be able to have their gun and in fact probably can not buy alcohol until they reach that magic age. I agree that there needs to be more control and much more investment into the mentality of those who have committed these devastations.

Again, I'm in agreement. We need policies based on more thought. I'm thinking the NRA is stonewalling and intimidating legislators. I believe most gun owners would support reasonable gun control. The NRA stands in the way.

I very much like your three line poem. You have said it how it is in so few words. I think your middle line needs centering.Good luck in the competition. Best wishes Jen.
