Hi Jenintorre, congratulations on the win! This is a well written free verse with great description and imagery. I could see it all in my mind as you described it.

I really enjoyed this,... can relate to the old-fashioned country life and almost feel the rocking of the chair on the verandah. You paint a picture even without the perfect one presented here. Fine work.

Thanks. I couldn't find the perfect picture. I got the verandah but couldn't find Ned.

Great free verse here, with Ned a kind of watcher from his tower,
remembering his own days.
Although I'm a prose person and pretty poor in writing poetry,
I love reading poems like this, poems that have some meaning
for me and give me something to take away with me. So it's not
a wonder that I would read an excellent poem like yours.
Thanks you for sharing.

Thank you for your great review.
Comment from Ogden
I read this as a recurrent recollection, rich with imagery, by an old man, from the vantage point of his every-day perch, savoring a time and place in his life, forever etched in his memory.
It's a game old folks play.

This reminds me of the deep south and home. I used to watch my mother and father rock out on the veranda with a slow gentle move and all us kids were so busy being kids and having fun. Awesome write. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Hello!
I smiled throughout my reading of your well-crafted free verse. Ned remind me of my grandfather, Archie, who did not sit on a veranda, but on a chair underneath the trees on his farm, watch the road and highway that both ran in front of his farm. He would sit there for hours lamenting progress.
The rocking motion of Ned in his chair is echoed throughout your poem, and draws the reader in as well as Ned reminisces about his youth while swatting flies. I truly enjoyed spending time with Ned... Thank you!
