Hello!
I also share your affinity for storms, perhaps not on the scale that you do, but I do love them. And here in northern Michigan we have what is called "thunder snow" during the winter month - which is rather thrilling to experience.
If I would offer any suggestions to your piece, it would be to separate the very long paragraph re: 1983. It lends itself to being divided up into 4 -5 paragraphs.
