There is nothing more rewarding than volunteer work. I put 20 plus years into our community and mostly working with children. When God has a plan, you do need to see it and grab it. Sometimes the ride is exciting and up lifting, when it ends you feel the loss, other times the ride is not the most fun of times, but somehow it just feels right. I have seen the holes you speak of and when the message comes, it is clear, whether it is volunteer or other projects, insights and rewards are worth every minute. Good Luck and Best Wishes in the Contest! Sherman541

Very religious minded poem. Has great spiritual overtone and an excellent inspirational theme that we should have faith in God And Jesus Christ and know they love mankind and we serve them well. Well done! liberty. Justice

Yes, just fill a hole. There are so many ways to serve God, as your poem eloquently stated. We don't "know what God had planned" for us, but it can take surprising turns as you stated in your closing lines"

a vacancy appeared within
...the churches' cleaning team.

Your true story of faith and service stood out. While I enjoyed your rhymes, I enjoyed your message more. It encourages us to find holes to fill in service of the Lord.

Your only SPAG is the need to add an apostrophe for the contraction of "it is":

(It's) just so hard to ever learn --

Thank you for sharing your compelling poem.

When one has a willingness to serve, the Lord will show and give a willing heart what they can do. You have again wrote another well written inspirational poem. I enjoyed it. Well done.

We may not know at any given time what God's plan is for our lives. But if we are patient and pray about it, I suppose He'll let us know in his sweet due time.
I pray daily, asking God why he spared my life (and on more than one occasion!). If it was simply to live out my final days in misery, pain, and depression, it's rather pointless in my opinion.
I wonder sometimes, to be brutally honest.
Either God isn't as "loving" as people claim Him to be, or He has a very warped sense of humor.
Nicely done, R. O.

I don't thinnk somebody who sacrificed His Son is laughing at you Dean. And I remember Jesus regretting His decision to die, talk about depression, Paul saying, , "I count my suffering as rubbish, to apprehend Christ and be a partner in His suffering" paraphrasing. . Perhaps there is a reason, look for it Dean. Thanks mate, sympathising won't help., blessings, Roy

Wow, I really feel like this poem was speaking to me. I'm at a point in my life where I been asking that question a lot lately. I feel the hole I'm to fill may have something to do with writing. I love to put pen to paper so we shall see. Thank you once again Roy for an outstanding poem. Blessings:)

I came to this site after responding to the cleaning position, dear Roxanne, and a succession of other tasks that fit my gifts, I had previously got into trouble second guessing God. Remember Sarah helping God to fulfil the promise of getting an heir, we got Islam because of it. Also remember Isaiah 40:31, "Those that wait upon the Lord..." I was 70 when God opened the door. Just a thought dear girl. Patience! Learn your gifts. Your wonderful review is appreciated, blessings, Roy

Yes, sometimes opportunities to be of service need to be answered. I am helping this year with the preschool Sunday school class. They are a rowdy bunch this year. To quiet them down, I suggested doing a craft each week. Now each week, I find and bring a craft project to keep them occupied . They have 20 or so fewer minutes to get into trouble. It is working so far and I have fun doing it. Have a blessed day, my friend~Debbie

What a great message in such a beautiful expression. The tight rhyme and rhythm of the poem created a wonderful musicality that led the reader to the powerful ending. It sends a beautiful message about how we are so often surprised by the role God wants us to take. Thanks for sharing

Yes, as the song goes, "If you want to be great in God's kingdom, learn to be the servant of all..." And you are a kind of a "preacher" here as you share your wonderful poems giving praise to God and your testimony of faith! Thankful for you, Roy!

With your poetry, I think that you have found that hole to fill. Your poetry and explanations are witnesses that do not insult my intelligence. Thanks again.
