Awwwwww! What a sad little story, no matter that they are finally reunited - fifty years is so long! Your twist ending was no surprise because of the picture chosen, though. But it's such a great picture! Good luck.

Hi there,

Yeah, I seem to remember seeing this programme as well. They do say elephants never forget. The other one which was heart-wrenching was the baby pining for its mother after being she was shot by poachers...

Good job with this in the limited wordage.

I've always believed that all animals have a sense of family and feelings. It's nice to read your work that shows this is true. Separation is hard for anyone, especially of it's a forceful one. I like the romantic ending that the two reunite after such a long time. It's very comforting.

This 50-word dribble, Reunion, gives us a brief, happy story of Ethyl and Phillip getting back together. You know they couldn't forget each other.

What a cool picture -- makes one wonder, which came first, the story or the picture to inspire. The picture does give the ending away a bit--but for such a short story, that's not really a problem, it's just an expected rather than a surprise ending.

This is a complete story in 50 words. That is so hard to do. I think the title, art, and narrative combine to tell a story about elephant love. I have read (and seen) how elephants emote. It is amazing. I did check for spelling. No errors. Good luck in the contest. There's a lot of entries.

I love the theme you chose and the way you portrayed the elephants seeing each other again. A lot was said in just a few sentences. Well done and good luck.

This is a beautiful flash fiction! We all feel the exact way when we haven't seen someone very close to us in a long time. This event with the elephants is so touching! Great job!

Fifty years of separation ended in fifty words! Probably quite a few animals in captivity would think that, "People they lived with weren't unkind, but it wasn't the same." I liked your image of leaden legs becoming wings upon seeing the loved one. Well written.

They used to say an elephant never forgets. I did not count words, but his looks right, and is certainly a touching dribble flash fiction. Excellent.
