So heartfelt and sad. You write such beautiful poems, even though they are about sadness and loss. Such beautiful tributes to your son. Every time I read your work or think of you, I think, prayers to you and your family for such a great loss.

I was in a car accident in 1979, I lost entire week of my life, but I am lucky to be alive. I remember waking after the accident and my first question was, 'Am I alive?". I was under the backseat of the car, on the floorboards face down and it was so quiet and dark. So dark, it was black. Our car looked like an accordion. I somehow managed to stay coherent until the ambulance came, giving all the important information. Then I was out until 7 days later, when I woke, wondering what had happened.

My friend and I were on our way home, in her car when the engine died. We were parked on the shoulder of the road, any farther we would have been in the ditch. I had been driving as, she had to work the next day and was sleeping. THEN BOOM! SMASH! Before we knew what hit. A man that was drunk thought our ER flashers were break lights and he thought we were moving. He was doing about 95 miles an hour when he hits us. We were and are so lucky to be alive.

I only know the majority of the story through others. Sherman

You are welcome and yes, we are both here and we can talk about and write about things that a lot of people never know about :) I am sorry to hear of all your misfortunes, as well. I do not drive cycles, but I love riding on the back taking pictures of our trips. I love riding, but it is truly a danger no matter how defensive and good of a driver you are, there are so many that are not. :)

You must be reliving this nightmare over and over Rivky, doesn't it ever abate? I know people who have lost sons in accidents, grieve for awhile, then get on with their lives, why not you dear man! Well done, Rivky, blessings, Roy

Dear Ricky,

An interesting write. It seems that one can fulfill destiny by painting on the palate of life of what is given him by God. It is wonderful that Jay's heart can continue to beat and help another.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Is the box in the picture accompanying your poignant post the box that holds Jason's ashes, Dr. Ricky?
If so, it's quite lovely.
Your melancholy musing concerning your son is very lovely as well.
Nice tribute.
RIP, Jason...
~Dean

This poem, Painting My Life Away, is an aching first-person retelling of the sadly short life and dramatic death of Jason. He had a brief but effective life, that ended too early.
