This poem tells of the power of words. Hurt caused by words last much longer than physical hurts. This also tells how faith can heal pain caused by others and by your own actions.

Keep writing

Yes indeed, one must be always careful when he/she activates the tongue and yes indeed, grace is a wonderful gift gifted to mankind by God. Another excellent poem my friend and as always beautifully rhymed with a graceful theme; thank you for sharing.

P.S: Please check, "Burden of gratitude"-I wrote this poem inspired by your poetry.

Amen and amen!! Grace I speech is such a hard thing to master but if submitted to God, we need not fight this battle alone. Great piece of writing and oh so true.

So pause awhile -- consider grace --
speak verbal silk not goads in lace.

I love this poem Roy! I was thinking of writing one myself, similar but different, about forgiveness. I enjoyed this so much, I don't know if I can even write mine now. You have said everything so beautifully here. I think grace and forgiveness are conjoined twins, in a way. There is nothing wrong with this... it is lovely in every way. Thanks for sharing this with us. MM

Beautiful exhortation, Roy! As we are all writers here, we should take care in how we use words. May we all try to "speak verbal silk " and use our "power to raise." Love the ending:
"Thus, grace is God's eternal gift --
they're wrought in Christ to heal sin's rift. "

Yes, often we say words that we regret for years. Often, they kill friendships and relationships. It's great if the offended party shows some grace and forgives. Doesn't happen all the time.

Excellent rhyme and meter throughout. Excellent societal commentary.

Words can certainly hurt. As you write, destructive speech can tear a soul. One can exert power with his words, and it is sad when his choices are hurtful and tactless. I'm thinking of the abusive and sometimes cruel speech used by some of our leaders. It is a sorry example. One might be able to forgive those who make hateful, disparaging remarks, but sometimes they are so overwhelmed they go so far as to commit suicide. Excellent rhyme and flow in your lovely poem. judi

Yes leaders are suppose to set and example, to them it's a game, but to folk who believe in them, it sets an atrocious, it's a wonder the can sleep at night, keep the kids ears away from them, thanks dear friend for your kind words and response, blessings. Roy

You're very welcome, Roy. We aren't getting very good examples for the kiddos, given the leadership they see. Your poem flowed so beautifully. judi

This is beautifully written and so true. It seems with age, I have a thinner skin and harsh words sting so much more than when I was younger. We all should be aware how our words can hurt someone. Lovely work with this one.

Wise words, indeed, Roy. Hurtful words said in haste cannot easily be taken back. The problem with words is, we can't forget them, either. It's a shame people can't stand back for a few minutes before the words pop out. Another of your lovely poems, my friend and a pleasure to read. xxx Sandra xx
