This, in my opinion is the absolute winner. You can't get any more hilarious or bizarre! The passage below had me in stitches!
>No Roman General, riding in the finest of chariots, could surpass Stoney's majestic composure, as he stood (literally) true to the old Yankee maxim; "Buy it cheap, wear it out, sell it dear".<

Good luck with the contest.

This might be where they got the idea for the song, "Ridin' through the desert on a horse with no name."
True stories like this are hardly a surprise for someone who grew up on a farm and is still involved in farm life.
This is a good piece of writing which I enjoyed

Enjoyable. I liked the way you began to tell the story, added some side story and got back to the story at hand.

Stoney stood tall on that dead horse one last time.

Best of luck in the contest... John

Thanks John, yes that sidestep was to give it a little more country background and there was some nostalgia on my part which tends to gain momentum once it? gets rolling. Thank you, Dennis

Hello!
What a story...true or not! It is wonderful. Reminds me of stories my Scottish grandfather would tell. I could clearly visualize "Stoney" on his "one-dead-horse-hearse." That image will last a long time.

Best Wishes!

Although I am crushed you would entertain suspicions as to the truthfulness of my father?s (and now mine) tale, I am heartened by your appreciation of the story itself. I assure you, it is true... but it?s also kinda fun too! Thanks for taking the time to review. Much appreciated, Dennis

    I wasn't doubting your truthfulness. It's a delightful story...whether true or not...is what I meant! :)

I have to tell you one reviewer said it was difficult for her to picture Stoney riding the dead horse! She assumed the horse had to be upright. I got a chuckle out of that one. :)

Lol. That's quite an entertaining story. I'm not quite sure I can visualize it though because I'm not sure how he sat on the dead horse unless it was fully upright.
Some comments:
"story teller" (storyteller)
"Ironicly" (Ironically) But perhaps you meant to do that for accent effect.

The horse was horizontal (as dead horses tend to be) :) and he simply stood on it. Thanks for spelling and punctuation tips, will correct. I appreciate your taking time to review my work.

This is a very interesting true story you have penned about the poor little dead horse and he going to his final place of rest. You used very good wording and great imagery with the art work! Thanks for sharing! Blessings, Teri

I think this is a good entry for the 'True Story' Contest.
Well written, I think you take after your father.
Well done and good luck to you with the contest.

Thank you Sharon, much appreciated. As a little boy, I always wanted to be like my Dad, but am now pretty sure I'm not going to live up to that lofty goal. God bless, Dennis

Clever entry in the contest. There really is a lot to enjoy in this story. First, for me, it had a folk-tale feel to it. I mean, I imagined you, or your dad, telling this story to family gathered at a table. That's a good thing. I was able to imagine the house on the road and the cars passing by. I have a brother in NH and he's a bit of a rebel, so I can imagine the conversations after waving. But of course, the stellar part of this story is the story. Your title teased your readers. We read through, trying to figure out how you are going to pull this off, and Bam, you do it. He literally rode a dead horse being pulled by other horses.

Well-written. I only paused at a period outside of the end quote, unsure if that was intentional.

It won't hurt you to tease the judges with your last line. Bound to get some attention. Good luck.

A very well-written rare true story. Stoney must have been a real lazy person to ride the stiff dead horse to its burial ground. A great original story I believe.

Thank you, although I'll give Stoney a pass on laziness in favor of practicality. It was cold, and I don't know how far he was going. Thanks again, much appreciated, Dennis
