The 6 comes from my heart as the timing was my life, I was a medic in the Army and understand the mental and physical aspects of pain, it is said that freedom is not free, I must disagree, "freedom is" the price of war takes from the love we all deserve by a very few with greed in their hearts but I will not judge just love. Thank you for reminding me. With love.

Very well said, my friend. I am a baby boomer and understand everything that you have said. Especially, when you asked, where did our youth go? I've been asking that question for years...Bill

    It's the sad truth of every generation me thinks-the loss of youth, idealism, drive, and the time necessary to carry on enough to affect change.

Coming from that slightly earlier period as a war baby I always felt you boomers had it all your own way. Clearly you don't believe that. We learnt to live without bananas on a diet of Woolton pie and turnip jam. You had it all, so who mucked it all up I wonder. ISIS?

    Actually, I think U are correct. We Baby Boomers tend to be a bit of a spoiled lot, I think. But that is separate from a rare sequence of events that allowed us a chance for real change.

First, I have to say that particular song is one of my all time favorites! This piece, though rhymed, never uses an extra word, yet comes across and fills my mind. Your poetic grace here rings true. The rhyming is NEVER forced, and you don't use punctuation to mar the images. My only thought would be to end it without the last stanza; however, that's a personal choice not an editorial one.

    I considered not using that last stanza. I'm still not sure it belongs there. I agree, it is kind of an anti-climax, and sort of just restates what I said before. I'm afraid U very well could be right. Thank U for reading me. Doug

I absolutely loved the picture and poem. I did not realise it was from a song. You partly talk about the past, and then the present. It was a pleasure to review and read. It sounds great all the way.

Yes there did seem to be more protesting and activism among the young in the Vietnam era. I think the end of your poem is true. If we can get riled up again and act maybe some of the violence and war will end.

Keep writing

Hi there;
Thank you for sharing this poetic piece of our history. It is too true that the generation of Baby Boomers had such great ambition, but for some reason, the world is still in a mess.

As someone at the tail-end of the generation, I think as we aged, we found ourselves embroiled in the business of living, and let the ambition to change the world slip away. We didn't vote enough or get involved in local politics; we didn't act as change agents. We simply raised our kids, and hoped for the best.

Thank you so much for sharing,

~patty~

    I think your reply is, unfortunetly, completely correct. And, I am just as guilty. Thank you.

I missed it. War baby in the Navy, minion of DIRNSA, not interested in free love and stds. Dreams? Yeah, big motorcycles and loud cars. End result? Same ol' same ol'.
Pink Floyd's best was the one about the tigers at Anzio...excellent post.

This has been the lament of each succeeding generation and I seriously doubt it will change with the next generation as well. Patricia
