Your poem is well done, extolling the value of having candles around when the power goes off. I remember in the 1998 Ice storm, we actually used candles to heat soup. They do throw off some heat as well as light.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Anne. It must of taken a long time to cook soup by candle light.

I like that you explore multiple aspects of your subject. Fir sure, they are one of the oldest providers of light for humans, but also a classic proof of age. This was a fun read :-)

This poem is delightful and surprising! I appreciate all of the beautiful images and thoughts about the utility and wonder of a single candle. I found myself adding my own ideas for use, from memorials to baths. But then you took this reader to the once wonderful and now sinister candle use! Aaaaah! I guess that's why someone invented candles in the shape of numbers, but somehow it doesn't sting any less. Having just had a milestone birthday, this poem cheered me much! Thank you!

Nice work. Good job.
It can also burn your house down, especially when you are stupid enough to use them to illumine a Christmas tree. Merry Christmas.
Best wishes and keep up the good work.

Thanks, Wayne, for the nice words and high rating. I don't think there are many who use lit candles on Christmas trees anyome.
    Keep writing and stay healthy

Your poem is brilliant! I really enjoy how you never state what the item is in your actual poem. You have done a fantastic job. I also really like your pen name!

This was a fun little poem about a candle. They can sure be handy, especially with no power out. I loved the humorous note you ended it on. Thanks for sharing!

There is another flaw you might not have thought of. If the wax melts and drips onto a carpet, you could struggle to repair the damage! I especially liked your rhyming simplicity with electricity.

Hi Joan, your poem made me smile...
I like the way you described the candle...
mostly when you answer natures call...
how many times I have stubbed...or even broke
a toe in the night...

I love your poem sweet girl...very well written...
love you...Linda xxoo
