The universal theme of promises broken - eloquently expressed in your poem. Nothing more disappointing than matters of the heart that go unfulfilled. You do have a way of addressing sentiments in a very sincere fashion. Thanks for sharing.

I know I am going back to front working down the list p[laying catch-up but this and the other posted today do work well together. This too could work as a lyric and for the same kind of reasons.

Sadly, promises are broken lots these days as folks just have a whole different value system they are working from. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Sometimes I think of how long my parents, and so many of the parents of my friend lived together...years and years and years...those words meant so much back then...divorce wasn't the first thought of after some hard times...this is a poem that rings true..actually this sounds like it could be turned into a song...it flows well...thanks for sharing your thoughts with us...

These days, Dr D, promises are easily cast aside. It will never be like it was in our grandparents day I don't believe. Yes, there are a few who will make it. But we live in a throwaway, me, me, me society. If what one isn't given--toss it away. Your words are heart-felt for one who thought s/he had found true love only to find out differently. The sadness and overall emotion within these lines ring so true. I think there are a lot of people who remain in the relationship, just to avoid these feelings. They literally rip the heart apart. Great portrayal; thank you for sharing,
