Hi Maria Jose. You've written a wonderful poem describing the complications 1about being mentally ill and institutionalised. I loved your stark free poem. It really brought the problem to the fore. All best. Ulla:)))

Thanks so much for reading, Ulla. And for the generous rating.

You managed to capture the raw emotions felt by someone being locked in a mental institution. Fear, frustration, anger, pain, abandonment and lack of trust are a few. Very well done, easy to read and follow, great job Maria.

A very well-written poem. Not everyone can understand what the struggle of a mentally ill person has to go through. The institutions and the personnel is not always the best for the patients.

I worked in a state mental hospital over 60 years ago and had to deliver patients to be given ECT and I even had to help with the treatment. It made me hurt to watch it happen. It was horrible. Patricia

I can imagine, Patricia. Is ECT forbidden now? Roy has asked me, but I'm not sure.
Thanks for reading.

It may still be done in very rare cases, but I think it has largely be abolished as a treatment for mental illness.

In the immortal words of Norman Bates of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho fame:
"We ALL go a little mad sometimes."
"I know I'm mad,
My brain
Betrays me.
But please don't go,
Don't leave me here.
They'll shock me awake." ... Nothing like a little dose of electroshock therapy to snap us inexorably back to reality is there, Maria?
Nicely done, very creepy.

Wow! I'm really proud. If you say it's creepy, it must be creepy indeed... Thanks so much. Have a lovely day.
P.S. I love the pic. At first I thought it was a skull, I didn't notice the woman till I looked a second time.

You're more than welcome, Maria.
It is indeed very creepy. :)

I know they once used electric shock treatment years ago...do they still do that Maria? But nicely written from the perspective of the "treatee". Beautifully presented from the viewpoint of the patient. Articulate, emotive and expressive, we'll done, blessings, Roy

I'm not sure if it's allowed nowadays. It was forbidden for a long time. I know Sylvia Plath was treated with ECT.
Thanks for reading.

I better watch out, heeheehee.

This is an interesting poem and just proves that any topic can inspire poetry to be written. You are certainly the poet for this one and it tells a very strong story, I remember seeing movies based on the events of your words and fortunately things have changed over the years but your words still apply to the basic concept. Mental illness seems to be plaguing our society these days. Well done!
