Hi Sis, I really like this five line piece of writing. It is poetic, and sounds convincing although you call it General poetry. When I saw the picture, before I opened up your page, I was asking myself "Do they still have open air drive-ins in US? You answered my question! I do remember racing to get to the swing before whoever it was I was with - a long time ago. Good read and great picture. Hope you have a good Christmas! Regards Dorothy

Yes, Dorothy! While drive-ins in the US are few and far between, I am fortunate that I have the Solano Drive-In thirty minutes from home. I am glad my poem sparked your memories of racing to the swing. Thank you for your review.

Excellent piece It really reminds me of my childhood. We take imagination where we ma, and live it wholeheartedly in the environment we grow up in.
I like the line " Through groves of talking metal trees". Excellent imagery.
Thank you.

Thank you, An Awakened Heart, for your review of my poem and compliments on its imagery. I wanted my poem to evoke the imagination I had at such a magical place. Thanks again.

What an excellent poem. It may be short but it packs a lot of message about life in the jungle city, and I enjoyed reading your poem. The words chosen reinforced the imagery of your poem.

Hello Andre: Wow, drive ins! I have never been to a drive in. I've seen them on TV but I guess I was under the impression that they existed many, many years ago. I do love your poem though. I love the choice of words used to describe the scene of the drive in: Asphalt sand dunes, groves of talking metal trees, and the lone playground swings. These words really give your poem the jazziness that it is.
I didn't think there were any around bur especially in New York but I googled the below information. To my surprise there are still about 28 here in NY. This would be something I might really enjoy doing. I may look to watch a movie this way just for the experience. Thank you for sharing this information. It made me curious
New York Drive-Ins - Although New York state was one of the first 10 states to host a drive-in theater (the first one opened in NY in 1938 on Long Island), the Empire State was still a late bloomer for drive-ins. Generally, across America, the peak years for drive-in theaters were the late 1950's. However, New York did not reach its peak number of drive-in theaters until 1963 when it boasted about 150 drive-ins in the state. Since then though, only about 81% of the drive-ins in the state have closed. And while that may seem like a very large number, the average is well over 90% for the rest of the country. Today, New York state still has 28 remaining drive-ins in operation which is the largest number of any state (Pennsylvania is second with 27)

Wow, Tier, 28 drive-ins in New York State? You better get busy. I am overjoyed to discover that an active drive-in in Concord, California is thirty minutes from my home and I plan to go there soon. Thank you for your review and for complimenting my word choice. I had a lot of fun sharing this poem I wrote twenty-five years ago, and will have even more fun when I go to a drive-in for the first time in forty years. Thanks also for being a great friend and reviewer this past year. I appreciate your loving and enthusiastic support. I wish you and all a happy and productive New Year.

You're bringing back memories, Andre. Unfortunately, too many drive-ins would show coming attractions of porno or at least hard "R" films and end up getting shut down from complaints by people who live close to the drive-in. Still - they are where I first saw Mary Poppins, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and the original Planet of the Apes.

Wow, Thal1959, what drive-in memories. I don't remember what I saw, but I remember the playground in front of the screen. The Solano Drive-In is thirty minutes from my home. They are playing "Coco" with "Star Wars" tonight. Thank you for your review.

It is always my pleasure, Andre.

Yes, Steve, I got teary-eyed when I searched for a picture to post with my poem and found photos of the demolished drive-ins of my youth. I am glad I shared my memories with you. Thank you for your generous, six star review. God bless you, too.

Sis Cat: what fun! Wonderful times with your friends and family.
You can swing, watch shows and create memories. Thanks
for memory lanes. Now, kids can watch movies on their techy
tools. Have a blessed New Year. flylikeaneagle - nancy

Oh, thank you, Nancy, for your cheerful review. My heart aches when I reflect upon these memories that tech tools can't make.

Drive-in's were awesome! Your poem captures that time and place perfectly, and the image you paired with it brings back memories. We live in Minnesota where cold and snow contributed to the two drive in's we had shutting down. I still remember watching " Night of the living dead " there and being scared to death on the way home when my sister drove through a cemetery! Thanks for sharing, this was great.

Wow, Boogienights, you should write a poem about your drive through a cemetery after watching "Night of the Living Dead." I am cheered that my poem brought back happy and scary memories. Thank you for your review.

Your words + picture create a great, nostalgic read. I know there are a few drive-ins in Texas. Your words are descriptive that a picture comes to mind. But your picture is great, too. Thanks for sharing a great memory. Jan

Oh, you most welcome, Jan. I was feeling sad when I looked at a photo of my childhood drive-in being demolished in 1996 but cheered to learn that drive-ins still exist half an hour's drive from where I live in California today. Thank you for your review.

This simple poem brings back very fond memories of the Skyview Drive in in Belleville, Il! For awhile there was even a pony circle and a couple of slides. You capture a whole time and culture with just a few well chosen words.. Thank you! Caroline
