While I celebrate the many reasons for 'The Holidays' I am saddened that some of our traditions are being lost in our efforts to stamp out any references to Christmas. Children can now only sing winter songs in public. No more "Joy to the World," or "Oh Holy Night." They sing instead, "Jingle Bells" and "Winter Wonderland." Not that there's anything wrong with that - but some beautiful reasons for the season are being drummed out of society.
Jesus, is a symbol of hope, and purity - a man that gave goodness and compassion to the needy, is being replaced with Santa - a jolly old elf who gives presents to the greedy.

Don't get me wrong, I celebrate diversity - and I recognize the right of people of different beliefs and faiths to celebrate their special festivals, and the people or gods that bring peace and spirituality to their lives. But in that rush to include others, I truly hope that all that is (or was) Christmas, is not lost. It's not that I don't want to be politically correct - but I do not think that in order to include others beliefs in our celebrations, that we need to abandon our own.

Your lyrics here are good and I think you've done a great job in recognizing that humanity has reasons to come together and to share their rich diversity and beliefs.

I normally try to sing lyrics as read them, and yours worked quite well with the tune of "My favourite Things" from The Sound of Music.

Merry Christmas, Happy Diwali, a blessed Hanukkah, Ramadan Mubarak, "Habari Gani at this time of Kwanzaa"

Hi there;
I love the idea of having a piece like this one set to the music of a large orchestra. Its reminiscent of the Michael Jackson song, 'We are the World.'

The political correctness police are really up in arms --- it shouldn't be a problem to put Christ back into Christmas.

Thank you for sharing,

~patty~

the problem with the Corvair engine was that it leaked oil. it was still cool driving it knowing it was a jet engine from an airplane. had the pony express people used them, it would've made a big difference I think. but they were stewpid and used cowboys and horsies. they always had to stop to poop and then, of course, that provided a perfect opportunity to rob them. maybe the horsies could've eaten the mail THEN the mail would've gone through for sure....

A catchy and bouncy song that I had no problem hearing in my own head. I wish that I were able to play an instrument. If I could I would have put it quickly to music. I myself am a Lyric writer, or at least I was before I decided to concentrate on poetry. I love a good lyric and these lyrics are good. Congratulation.

I've been back to this piece a few times. I've read it and thought on it and read it again and tried to think what was being said and what did I think of the piece of writing. I believe you have written a piece that could easily be adapted to the format you mention and in different cultural influences. It's a serious piece of writing. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

I agree, Anonymous Author." If people are greeting others and using Merry Christmas simply to offend them, then that is just blatantly wrong and childish.
On the other hand, I also have this to say concerning the use of "Merry Christmas" as a greeting.
This is a free country. Always has been, always will be.
So, for those who are offended by me saying "Merry Christmas", I say too bad. If you don't like it then pack your sh!t and go back where you came from.
I don't get all bent out of shape when someone greets me with "Happy Kwanzaa", or "Happy Holidays."
I expect the same respect in return.
Good luck in your contest.
Happy New Year.
~Dean

I enjoyed reading your song lyrics. I have to say I will always use 'Merry Christmas ' and I don't use it to 'taunt' other religions, but use it because that is what this holiday is about, the birth of Jesus. It does not mean I am against other religions, we all believe is God, so what you call your faith is up to the individual person/country. I do not criticize or put down, other religions, but I do get upset when we have to change the name of our beliefs to appease those with different beliefs. Can you ever see other countries doing this if some Christians objected to their religion when we move or visit them? For some reason, regardless of the label PC, (which I think has gone OTT ) we are the ones who are in the wrong if we use the term Christmas, yet those with other beliefs are allowed to shout out loud about their beliefs, and are encouraged to do so, are accepted in the eyes of the PC people. I think it's rather one-sided. As I said, I have no objection to other religions, some are as old as time and should not be maligned. I just wish people would not take away the significance of ours. I did enjoy your lyrics, and wish you good luck in the contest. Have a wonderful 2018. Sandra x

A lovely rhyme and quite lyrical/musical when read aloud; smooth flow with down to earth vocabulary and a wonderful message; thanks for the treat and good luck!
