This is quite true. I know someone who does exactly what you describe here. You must have been a waitress. I enjoyed reading this entry and I wish you much luck in the contest. Marilyn

Thank you, BeasPeas, for your kind review of my poem. Never been a waitress; just an observer of old men. :o)

I very much enjoyed reading this as it showed a very nice, relaxed side of being older
As opposed to doom and gloom. Well done and good luck in the competition.

I enjoyed reading your Yay I'm Getting old poem "Old Men". You told the story well. - I guess that is really all old men can do. I think companionship is good to help wilde away their time.
All the best.

I KNOW these old men, ha ha. I was a waitress for 17 years, and they'd come in every week, still do. This is a most excellent entry!! Blessings...

Excellent free verse poem that describes the get together of elderly men discussing life. The reader feels like she is watching a scene clearly. I wish you well in the contest.

very nice entry indeed
free verse is a little elusive in my mind
I am not sure if I should review with or without structure
in my free verse I tend to ramble on and on but here you have kept a fine and excellent pace
good story line
excellent flow
very picturesque wording and the imagery has taken my little mind all the way to Italy or France
have a smiley day

A very well-written poem about aging. When we get older we have more freedom to do what we like to do. There are no time restrictions and work schedules.

This is a comforting write of men enjoying their retirement and catching up on gossip, your words are innocent and each man has lead a different life but can come together to enjoy each other's company, a warm and sincere write, love Dolly x

I've seen this scenario played out in real life time and time again, Jo.
Old timers, very early in the morning getting together over a hot cuppa Joe at the local diner or cafe to shoot the breeze.
When my ex-wife worked as a waitress and we had just one car, sometimes I would take her to work because I'd need the car later on. I'd go inside and have some breakfast and a cup of coffee on those days, and they they were--the farmers and retirees, all hobnobbing around the counter.
So, yes, this is a common sight in almost any town.
Good writing, and best wishes to you in the contest.
~Dean :)

Hi justjo66,

I enjoyed reading your contest entry poem.
You are always wonderful at writing them.
I know what it's like to be old because I am.
I'm eighty years old and might make it to 81.

Thank you, Kat, for reviewing my poem. I am 69 and considered old. LOL My mom is 88 and still very young at heart and mind. Staying busy, I think, is one of the keys.

    Hi Jo,

You're much younger than I am. I didn't know that I'd make it this long.
    LOL
