This is well written, but I disagree with the conclusion, and it is the most important part, especially considering the subject matter. If we live in fear, then the terror has accomplished it's intended purpose. Freedom is lost when we capitulate to the saber rattling of an enemy, whether the threat of violence is empty or assured. All we have control over is our own ability to stand courageous in the face of evil. No moment in time can bestain an entire life lived to uphold the truths that made our country great. A devotion to the worship of the one true God, and defence of the life and liberty that He has given.

Thank you, Tim, for your review and comments. I agree with you that many may find the poem?s conclusion depressing, but if through the negative it encourages people to turn toward God and a defense of our freedoms and liberty, so much the better. Thanks again.

Your message is right on, the best response to terror attacks and senseless
violence is PRAYER....not riots and retaliation or revenge...both as personal
message and a universal one too. Your pic and theme is poignantly relayed,
and would be a better world and outcome if it were heeded more often
everywhere. Evil and violence never wins total victory...only leaves survivors.
Truth and prayer, out lasts and sustains. till lessons learned or change
eventually evolves in people, countries and nations all over the world.
Thanks for sharing your direly needed message and enlightenment.
Best wishes, Ronni

Fourteen ten-syllable lines...where have I heard that before? And yet, the scraping of old wounds adds layer on layer of scar tissue, and hearts draw in on themselves and don't reach out...kick a good dog, and you best kill him, or you will make him mean. Excellent s--poem

This is an excellent, very well composed English sonnet, Andre.
Staying home, cowering in fear...that's what these terrorists want us to do.
However, Americans do not give up easily nor do we always go peacefully into that good night. It is in our nature to stand up and fight for truth, righteousness and freedom.
It will always be that way, no matter what they try and do. Just watch the turnout at the NYC Marathon 54re
I wish you the very best of luck in the contest.
~Dean

Hi Andre,

This is something I can relate to on a very personal level. I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s in Northern Ireland and we were subjected to things like this on almost a daily, and certainly weekly basis. I've been stabbed, beat up and been in several bomb blasts myself. it's crazy - all by the age of 21.

It drove me away from my country to which I wouldn't return until 22 years later.

it is insidious and all pervasive.

Good strong piece.
G

This is a great Sonnet on the terrorist attacks everywhere, Andre. Well, it was best your event was canceled just in case. It's very scary, my daughter was on the way to the parade in NYC where the truck attack was. She said they were going to cancel the parade, I don't know why they didn't. Have a great Sunday:) ~Kerry

You did a great job with your sonnet detailing how people reacted to terrorism in NYC [& elsewhere]. Your sonnet reads smoothly with great info. The picture is perfect. This is such a timely issue & your words keep it in our minds as it should be. The world will never be the same for any of us. We must constantly be on our guard. Thanks for sharing. Jan

This is an excellently done sonnet with perfect rhyme and spot on flow. What you say is the truth and you took us from the first problem, to todays part, to what eventually happens to a summary. Very nicely done

Sis Cat this poem is powerfully written with admonishments so we won't get too comfortable. We must always watch our surroundings and now we have to watch out for terrorists using vehicles like Home depot truck to run over people. lol liberty justice
