Hello Michael

Hahaha..... this is funny. The picture is hysterical and a great match for the poem. Sometimes I wonder the same thing too. I met a few cavemen myself. Well done sweetie pie. Good luck with the contest.

Gypsy hugs

Military? I can't see it but I just got up anyway. I do understand that it was a step back for mankind and never quite got could figure that one out. It was too creepy for me.

Hi, Michael;
There's nothing like a man with a crewcut! Actually, I really do love the military haircuts. I think its because I spent so much of my twenties surrounded by men in uniform,

Good luck in the contest,

~patty~

I am a product of the 50's and I hated that haircut back then too. Definitely not the least bit flattering, but probably easy to take care of. Interesting this was popular in the 50's, little did they know what the 60's would bring.

Oh, the haircut I totally dislike.
You got it down pat. I call it - don't be offended - the Hitler haircut.
But your pic it's really buzzed, so it doesn't fit my description.
Great job, and good luck with the competition, Michael.

(And sorry about not waiting until you're 80 to tell you; didn't think you'd read it!)

I believe the style got its name from the military/naval vocabulary because anyone could deliver it without training and it kept the hair short and manageable. Just why it became fashionable in the fifties is difficult to understand. It was followed by equal and opposite reactions -- the long locks of the sixties and then back to the skin heads. It seems we can't make up our minds what to do with our top knots. KIm Jong Un takes a leaf out of both books. Long on top short round the edges.

I can honestly tell you that no one in my company while I was enlisted in the Marines had a hair cut like this, Michael.
A landing strip, yes, they were the most popular. It's similar to a crew-cut but only a strip of hair is left more towards the top of the head. Not all over, as this is. It is also known as a "High & Tight".

A complete buzz cut--absolutely.
Sgt. Vincent Carter of the television series, Gomer Pyle, USMC, had a crew cut similar to the one pictured in your accompanying photo. Perhaps that is where the misconception stems from.
This haircut would not be up to military specifications.
Best wishes to you in the contest.
~Dean

Aha. So I assume -- oh, great and hairy one -- that you're saying you're not a fan...?
I can see where that might make sense. *smile*

And I saw the fifties right away. No worries.

Thanks!
