You have done really well with this 5-7-5. There is so much truth here.
I had never thought about it before, but many people never even got to visit a grave as it was so far from home

Yes, absolutely so. Heroes seem to have a forgotten name because it bares little strength in these times.
Back then, hero meant hero, now we seem not to know of them any longer.
My best wishes.

Well written about a truth many fail to think about. While that is less the case in recent conflict, it does still happen. Good thought provoking piece. Good luck with the contest.

Indeed it is only recently that both British and American dead are brought home The final resting place of many remains where they fell, far away. One problem here, easily recified
"Hero's left to free their land"
This is not a single hero who has left to free his land but plural
"Heroes left to free their land" so no apostrophe and the plural form.

The topic is a sad one indeed, Kahpot! Plural of 'hero' should be 'heroes' though, not 'hero's' (which is eithe possessive, or short for 'hero is' - but if that were the case, then you'd need to have agreement with singular/plural 'their' land???

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem. When conflict arise, soldiers of the country are willing to leave their homes and families to protect the citizens of their country. Not all of them return safe unharmed.

YOur syllable count is perfect but I would change one of the left for another word, doesn't matter which one but it makes it awkward as is.

Comment from Dean Kuch
Young men and women go off to war everyday to fight and die for the freedoms we enjoy today.
It is the unselfish sacrifices of these brave souls and their families to whom we owe our deepest gratitude and respect.
Best wishes to you in the contest, kahpot.
